Scardu - Climbers' Paradise ???? ???? ???? ???? is a city in the same named area in the Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Skardu, the capitol of Baltistan, lies 2,438 meters above the surface of the ocean in the background of the great summits of Karakorum. Temperatures are 27 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius. Apart from the unparalleled summits and majestic mountains and majestic ice, Baltistan's five dales - Shigar, Skardu, Khaplu, Rondu and Kharmang - are known for their lush peach, apricot, apple and pear.
On the same flight path that links Gilgit with Islamabad/Rawalpindi, the aircraft turns right and crosses the Indus canyon. You can reach Skardu by coach from Islamabad. It' s on the way to Shigar but about 2 km from the highway. About 8 km from Skardu and 20 min. by car lies the Sadpara Sea, encircled by glacier peaks which are reflected in its crystalline shimmer. It has a fairy-tale central isle that can be accessed by rowing canoes.
Gasherbrum & K-2, the gate to the great summits of Karakoram, is only 23 km from Skardu.
The Buddha Skirt Carvings: A giant Buddha statue from the eighth AD, encircled by small Buddhisatvas, is engraved on a cliff three kilometers from Skardu via Sadpara Nullah on the Skardu-Sadpara Road. Prehistoric people and animals are engraved on cliffs along Lake Kachura. Near Perkuta (Mehdi Abad) Nalah there are also some petroglyphs and schematics of a cloister.
Angling licences are available from the Fisheries Authority in Gilgit and Skardu. Angling: At Lake Satpara (8 km) and Lake Kachura (32 km) of Skardu there are many trouts. Walking around the east end of Skardu cliff takes you to the near town of Narsok, where you will find a large, clean source that flows from the foot of the Mt.
At the Skardu bazar you can also buy colourfully stitched "Chugas" (Baltistani dress) and woodspoon. Bazaars Naya, Old Bazar, Botto Bazar, Hussain Chowk, Alamdar Chowk, Kazmi Bazar, Gamba Bazar, Benazir Chowk, Yadgar Chowk etc. Gems topaz, Yadgar Chowk, Skardu. Sawabaz Gems, Kazmi Bazar, Skardu. The Pagoda Restaurant, part of Shangrilla Resorts, serves lavish traditional Chinese-cooking.
This pagoda is situated on an islet in the middle of the honeymoon lake, which is connected to the Shangrila resorts by a small viaduct. Lakeview Restaurant, part of Shangrilla Spa, provides a scenic look at Shangrila Spa and serves traditional Moroccan and international cuisines. The Karakoram Café near Benazir Chowk, opposite the foreign operated freezer, serves a large selection of genuine coffees, tea, chai and newly cooked West products.
Shaangrila Resort is the most loved holiday destination in the state. Drive on the Karakoram Highway, commonly known as the Silk Road.
