Over Shepherd Group of Islands

Shepherd Islands are a group of inhabited volcano islands just off Port Vila. From the Air Vanuatu fligths just off Port Vila you have an outstanding view of the islands. The Tongoa and Emae are the group' major islands. The other islands are Tongariki, Buninga, Makira, Mataso, Ewosé, Faléa and Wot Rock.

These islands are mainly accessible by boat. There are only two islands in the shepherds and these are Emae and Tongoa. As an alternative, by arrangement, visitors can go to the shepherds via Air Vanuatu, i.e. to Emae or Tongoa, and then take a speed boat to the smaller islands â "Shepherds are accommodated in shelters, in townhouses," he said,

There is no merchant guesthouse or bungalow on Mataso, Makira, Buninga and Tongariki except Emae and Tongoa, but it is possible to arrange for villagers' houses and guests should have their own groceries, drinks and some additional teas, coffees and sugars, which can be donated as a small present.

The Shepherd Islands are the biggest of the Shepherd Group. It has many old volcanoes and has some dark sandy shores, and the interior is thickly wooded. It is called after the Tongoa plants that grow in the area. Megapodebirds are nesting on the isle.
