samoanan japonese artists Yuki Kihara's photo set Where Do We Come From? The project (2013) concentrates on places of contemporary and historic importance in Samoa..... By taking over the 1897 work of the Parisian painter Paul Gauguin, Kihara signalled her wish to enter into a dialog with Gauguin and the story of color photographs, dealing with the story of the Pacific's representational role in the West.....

It is a copy of Thomas Andrews Samoan Half Caste (1886), a character in Viktorian gown, who draws the eye of the beholder and calls everyone to communicate their act of grief in these places.... It also shows how the Samoan approach of the Samoan v? shows how the Samoan approach to the story and how there is a collapse of spatial and temporal times to create an appreciation of both the country's present and the possible futures that such a story entails....
