There was once (1979, to be precise) a Samoan paper in New Zealand to keep our immigrant fellowship in touch with home through news, chatter and column about God, the arts and people. It was called "Samoana" and was the first Samoan unilingual publishing house in New Zealand.

Samoana newspaper had an astonishing 27-year run full of ups and downs, some unbelievable folks, the strange outrage and a lot of hearts. Sometimes it was as if the cliché "blood, perspiration and tears" was written just to describe the efforts made to keep this tribute to a budding Samoan New Zealand society intact.

Samoana Newspaper's last edition was published in 2006, just a few month after the death of its pioneering foundr. A Samoana is the endeavour of another Samoan family to keep our nation in touch through our thoughts, our histories and a ceremony of our shared heritages. In this sense, we express our modest respect to the Samoan papers, which are still powerful and pass on the tales of our nation - the vote of Samoana - to the papers every weekend.
