Australian Islands - Rurutu
An unspoilt Polyynesian island. They came in numbers from James Cook to French President François Mitterrand and were amazed when they discovered Rurutu and its gorge. Regal hiding places or hidden places for exiled deities and beings, they unveil the origin of Rurutu. There are many geological legend in the special cultures and living tradition, such as the "Tere" and the "I", or during the renowned Polish Heiva festivals.
Rurutu Lodge is conscious of this still existing culture and invites its visitors to take part in all these festivals and folk festivals in Rurutu. Off the well-trodden path, Rurutu's real richness lies in the friendliness of the very ordinary folk who live there - whose origins go back some 3000 years - and who have succeeded in maintaining untouched interrelations.
With a length of 16 to 18 metres and a weight of 40 tonnes, humpback porpoises can reach a minimum age of 50 years. As the southern winters arrive at the South Pole, ice-bergs and krill, the basic diet of cetaceans, become rare. Rurutu's tranquil and clear water is ideal for cetaceans looking for a tranquil area. There is no other site comparable to Rurutu when it comes to meeting and bathing with moguls. The PADI and CMAS Sunsail Diver Club Diveshop is situated at Rurutu Lodge.
