There is more Iceland information than any other website. Let me tell you about a nice area of Iceland that is often missed by people.
It' is named Melrakkaslétta and is situated in the northeast of Iceland, directly above a very famous area in the north, the Jökulsárgljúfur Glacier Gorge, where my favorite place in Iceland, the Ásbyrgi Gorge, is and many other jewels of the north. I undertook a 3-week trip through Iceland in August 2014 and went to areas I hadn't seen since I was a young boy, e.g. the small town Raufarhöfn, where we spent 2 overnight stays in a nice guest house named Hreiðrið - Nest.
While in the guest house we received a lot of information about the Melrakkaslétta from the very competent Halldóra, who works both in the guest house and is head of the Norðurhjari tourist board in the north-east of Iceland and who is responsible for the Norðurhjari projects. Raufarhofn is the most northern of Iceland's villages, a wonderful little town with about 166 residents and a pristine dock.
Ruaufarhöfn is located on the eastern side of the Melrakkaslétta and is one of only two towns on the Peninsular, the other is the town of Kópasker on the western side of the Melrakkaslétta Peninsular. Raufarhofn is very near the Arctic Circle (66°27. 26?N 15°56. 06?W) and is therefore also known as the Arctic Circle Town.
So far to the far northern side, the residents of Raufarhöfn spend the longest summers and the darkiest winters. This is a small picture of the arctic henge in the far away, just above my mind. The one below is also in the hamlet of Raufarhöfn.
On our way to Raufarhöfn, the first scenery we met was the wide, shallow prairies of Melrakkaslétta. On the plains you can see curious formation of algae, some of which look as if humans are on the plains in the faraway. We were there later in the evening and could stop the vehicle in the street and take pictures, amidst this huge shallow countryside with huge rock faces illuminated by the sun.
I' d seen pictures of a new Raufarhöfn building in Icelandic named Arctic Henge, Heimskautsgerðið, and I was attracted to see it with my own eye. I was not dissapointed by my stay, I was in reverence for the beauties of the Arctic Henge and the Arctic Marsh.
I have seen so much that I would like to present to you that I will add some items about this isolated place in Iceland. I was very curious to see her and did not want to stay until the next day to do so.
The work on the Arctic Henge began in 2004 and is today the largest tourist attractions on the Melrakkaslétta. It is the Arctic Henge's intention to use the midnight sun at the Arctic Circle. From the top of the mountain, where the Arctic henge is located, you have a clear sight in all direction.
Arctic Henge was initiated by the hotelmanager of Hotelmanager Norðurljós, Erlingur Thoroddsen, who unfortunately passed away in December 2015. Halldórsson, the painter, created the Arctic Henge. For the Arctic henge, the concept comes from Nordic mythology - from the most famous Edda poet Völuspá - The prophecy of the visionary.
That is the ancient Viking faith, in Icelandic Ásatrú. Once the Arctic Henge is completed, it will have a 52 meter dia. and an 8 meter high pillar with a clear crystals on top that will illuminate the Arctic Henge. When we had explored the Arctic Henge for the first case - we went up three different lights - we slept well in our beautiful guesthouse Hreiðrið - Nestand was looking forward to a whole days exploration of the Melrakkaslétta Plains the next morning - and to crossing the Arctic Circle.
Turn off the 85 onto the 874 towards the towns of Roofarhöfn and Melrakkaslétta. Arctic Henge is situated on the northern side of the small hamlet of Ruaufarhöfn. This is the position of Ruaufarhöfn and the Arctic Henge on the worldmap. Raufarhofn is about 602 km from Reykjavík if you go clockwise.
when I was visiting Raufarhöfn. Horseback trekking in Iceland is a favourite activity, and although you can enjoy it all year round, it is definitely the best season for horseback trekking. One of the largest sporting competitions in the countryside takes place in summers, Landsmót or The National Icelandic Horse Competition, a semi-annual event with the best equestrians and cavalry.
The Víðidalur River Basin has turned into a whole town with a camping site, children's play area and market selling everything from equestrian gear to Iceland' leopapeysa sweaters. There' s also a dining room where you can taste a large selection of delicious dishes from Iceland and a venue for music performances staged by regional orchestras.
In addition to the competition itself, the competition is a family-friendly rural celebration where you can get to know both Iceland horses and the culture of Iceland. The Vikings first introduced the Islandhorses around the year 900.
Soon after, the Álþingi, the Israeli government, adopted legislation banning the import of other races of horses, and so the Islamic horses have been kept in total silence on the Iceland for over a thousand years. Indeed, the regulations are so stringent that an Iceland horse can never come back when it is taken abroad.
It is undeniable that the horse has been a complex part of Iceland' society and cultural life for hundreds of years. As the car became more common, however, Iceland's roads became insecure for horsemen, and to provide a secure room and a riding arena, several riding associations were established throughout the state.
Landsmót, the first National Icelandic Equestrian Show, was a national meeting of these riding associations, where they showed their best studs and broodmares and fought for a "Best in Show" award titled Sleipnisbikarinn, or "Sleipnir's Cup", after Odin's 8-legged mare. In 1950, the ceremony took place in the holiest place of the land, Þingvellir National Park, the place where Alþingi had introduced equine import legislation about a thousand years earlier.
Landsmót Hestamanna The Landsmót Riding Championships are the All Island icelandic riding contest, also known as "Gæðingakeppni". Here horsemen of all age groups measure themselves with their ponies in shows that show all five paces of the iceland ic horse: tolt, Trob, step, gallop and flight speed.
Yes, five paces, because unlike other races the iceland icelander also has' tölt' and'skeið' or'flying pace'. However, the tolt is perhaps the favorite course of the horsemen of the Icelandpferdes. The difference between this contest and other equestrian sports is that the main emphasis is not on the horseman, but on the equestrian himself.
If you are interested in iceland icelands, why not visit the village of Arbær in Reykjavík and see the best ponies in this area? Lomagnúpur is one of those huge cliffs in Iceland that fascinate many visitors, but you usually just come by because you are in a rush to take pictures of many other astonishing places.
To be sure, it is easily found along the A1 highway in South Iceland, as it goes right past the crag. Granted, it is one of the less prioritised places for landscapes in Iceland and that's a pity, as you can get some breathtaking pictures here. To see more of this lovely place and other places in Iceland, watch this video:
You can also check out my HOMEPAGE to see even more amazing pictures from Iceland. Island may be out of the World Cup, but we are still proud! "They see them as the statues and the splendour in the statue, and they see all these things united in one view, but everything has a history of somewhere, whether it is related to my work in the past with the Princesses of Mariah Carey, Azealia Banks, Adam Ant to Wikileaks, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen.
Daniel, who had been influenced by the work of David LaChapelle, began to dress more extensively, even to go to the mall. Later on he went to London to work as a modeller, where he got to know a number of interesting individuals and began to collect some of the intriguing works in the work.
" Daniel guides the group through his show like a dream, stops at each of the sculptures to tell a little story about a particular item or where he was wearing the dress, and draws you into his universe with tales about kings, Maasai men, clothing designer, popular artist and much more. Icelandic Concert-Harpa Concert Hall: The concert goes from storey to storey.
They realize that there are others, all kinds of folks, and I think that's what we're missing. "During the walk he will talk about how much we are still tied to old tradition and how much the rest of the earth allows us to be truly unique. "We are all dazzled by the policies and religions and idols of others and centuries-old notions that no longer suit the contemporary age, pre-historic mediaeval mindsets, and it is not advanced to anyone.
" And hopefully there will be something[at the exhibition] that will teach us that all over the whole wide globe lives differently. Gógó Starr, the drag-queen who recently honored the Icelander with the title "The Woman of the Mountain", a symbolic of what the Icelander regarded as real and pure Iceland.
But I think it' s time Iceland woke up and realized that it has become an international[place]. "Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Already Taken was co-curated and first shown at the Savannah College of Art and Design Museum of Fashion and Film, Atlanta in 2016 and was shown at the Reykjavík Arts Festival in Iceland.
It' certainly an interesting show, as it takes you through a colourful universe made up of an array of exhibits of global, culturally and historically rich music. It is an easiest way to study the language with Save Íslenska! Would you like to study the language? You are just beginning to study the language and are looking for an easier way to help you?
To find out more about the Nuchyarin I had a little talk with her. Nuchyarin comes from Thailand and is wed to Filippus, an Icelander. Since 2010 the couple have been together in Iceland, where Nuchyarin has been studying at the University of Iceland. First they lived in Reykjavík, but now they are on the southern coastline of Iceland and help Filippus mum and dad with a smallholding near Kirkjubæjarklaustur, where they raise their young bi-lingual family.
By 2015 they were living in Thailand, where Filippus learned the Thai language with the help of study charts. There, the concept of creating similar alphabetical flasscards in Icelandic was born, and they are now in the making. They wanted these maps to provide a funny and simple way for a foreigner to study the Hebrew script as a first stage in his or her studies, regardless of years.
What is the difficulty of speaking the Icelandic language? It will be a place where Icelandic learners can come together and help each other. Nuchyarin also creates weblogs to help them master the fundamentals without mastering too much vocabulary. And as this fellowship is growing, she is hoping to produce more footage and more flash cards or even plays that can help them.
They are designed for English-speaking persons, but the couple are also very interested in making maps in Polish, Thai, Filipino and some of the refugee language communities that come to Iceland. Study in Iceland The maps are for English speakers and the English language version of the English language guides.
There' also an instruction how to say it: | House < the above, in HF is how you would say Ás in Icelandic. There' s a map with directions on how this works, which follows the stack of maps in case folks are not sure. Maybe in the near term, if they are interested and have enough money, an application will become real.
They are talking about rescuing Islandic from becoming an endangered language, and there are already some concerns among the language learners in the land that because it is not up to speed with modern technologies, it will become obsolete. I, for my part, do not agree, as for every new invention words are made in Iceland and nowadays it is possible to have your computer preferences completely in Icelandic. Therefore, I do not agree with this.
Speaking to Nuchyarin about her projects, she asked me if I have much to do with kids and how often I listen to them speaking German, using German words or slang and pointing out that their computer, videogames and TVs are in German with German caption. When I grew up, all TV shows and movies were in Anglo-Saxon with dubbing, but nowadays many of them are synchronized (I always choose the native language), so I think that nowadays there is much more footage in Icelandic than in the 1980s and 1990s.
And, yes, I may have used the jargon as a child and still do, but my icelandic is first-rate. Icelandans are always worried about their own languages, and the same problem was raised in the mid-19th centuries when it was fashion to use Danish or to use Danish-sanguine. However, the Israeli tongue has held out, and the people of Iceland are far from converting Iceland into another one!
Nowadays, even the Islandic pop culture raps in Icelandic, and this is regarded as really trendy and chilly, which was regarded as not possible when the pop culture started in the 90s. So, it may be a very gloomy view that the Irish way of speaking will become extinct, but I am basically an optimist. What I have to say is that I am an optimistic person.
It is never a waste of learning another country, no matter how few it is spoken. For those who are not interested in the flash cards but still want to help the program and get something connected to Island, there is the Mii (MYSIRFOX isspiration) family.
25 percent of the profits go to the production of more educational materials from Iceland. When we succeed, we want to develop more materials and some toys that would be teaching Icelandic. "They are suitable for all ages, although very young kids naturally need parental instruction, just as when they study their own alphabet.
There are already 5 colleges teaching Islandic to foreign students registering to receive a free copy, one free copy for every 25 units sold on Indiegogo will be given to one of them. It is important, we believe, to provide learning cards free of charge to our students so that those who learn the language have free admission to more than one schoolbook.
This is such a great effort from such a lovely pair, and I invite anyone interested in the fundamentals of Icelandic to do so. It would be very useful for anyone who travels to Iceland to say words like Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Fjaðrárgljúfur or Eyjafjallajökull - or just to be able to tell someone the name of the road you are on when looking for itineraries!
Island DOES with Argentina!!!!! Island's first match in the World Cup, EVER! Island v Argentina! Islands first match in the 2018 World Cup (or in the case of Islands the first match in a World Cup) has just ended with a 1-1 draw! Never before has Island ever missed a match in the World Cup!
Alfred Finnbogason is the first Icelander ever to go down in soccer theater! Over the past few countries, the enthusiasm for the World Cup in Iceland has been noticeable over the last few countries, and it has been growing every single workingday. Today it culminated in Iceland's first game - against no less than the legendary Argentinians.
The only thing that made the match more exciting was that it took place on a Saturday, and June 16 is a classic Icelandic celebration because it is the eve of a country festival - Iceland's Independence day. Obviously, there were many folks upbeat enough to believe that Iceland would be winning and have nothing but immortal faith and backing in the side, but others were more real and thought that this would be a match in which Iceland should put most of its effort into defending itself so as not to be butchered by the Messi family.
It is Argentina, one of the best sides in the whole wide globe, and from an objective point of view Argentina is the most likely to be the winners of their group (Group D). We all hoped Iceland would be victorious, of course, how astonishing would that be? A draw would also be unbelievable - and OMG was an enthralling match!
Soccer in Iceland | Secret of Success . Iceland struggled the whole match, with the first opportunity to win points quickly. However, the first gate of the match was scored in the eighteenth moment, when Argentina scored the first gate to the Argentine team's immediate cheers. But Iceland's mind was far from being shattered, and just 5 mins later Iceland scored with a nice Alfred Finnbogason gate - the first Iceland scored in the World Cup!
Argentinia were in control of the form much more than Iceland and even got a spot kick (after one of innumerable falls). He is the first goal keeper to rescue a Messi spot kick in a big soccer fixture in the rich! If, after this fixture, the Icelanders are not all registered for the best soccer clubs in the whole wide globe, then I will be eating my cap.
There was unbelievable assistance to the Iceland throughout the match and the pre-match assistance Iceland enjoyed was overpowering. Iceland is, of course, regarded as an outsider or the path to the World Cup is regarded as a fairy tale.
The next Iceland match will be June 22 at 3 pm (GMT - Iceland LTC) against Nigeria and June 26 at 6 pm (GMT) against Croatia. Is the Icelandic soccer team going to make it to the World Cup? What impact does the success of Icelandic soccer have on the nation? It' s certain to say that all of Iceland has seen this match and will see the coming match in Iceland, even those who normally have no interest in Soccer.
Hugleikur Dagsson is a good example, as you know, he is not interested in soccer, but designs soccer T-shirts with a HÚH print (the famous volleyball song you no doubt listened to during the match when you saw it). Many Icelanders have gone to Russia to see the match in person (during the European Championship, a large part of the continent went to France to see the matches), but there are still many folks in the land who make a big, big celebration out of the whole thing.
Coca Cola commercials the above but they have supported Iceland' soccer for 30 years and it is great to note that Hannes Þór Halldórsson, who is the keeper of the national soccer club, (you know, the one who rescued all those gates and made messi look messy) was the producer of the impressing commercials.
It' really shows how the hearts beat in the land of Iceland. It seems to me that it very aptly summarizes the feeling of the Island icelands. The majority of advertisers are natives who do their normal work, both known and not known. There is a famous bakery from the village of Ísafjörður, Gunnar Nelson MMA warrior, Auður Linda is Iceland's hardest auto technician, there are fisherman and snowboarder, Sara Sigmundsdóttir cross-fit competitor and of course Gummi Ben, soccer comedian, who gained his reputation all over the globe when he became completely crazy when Iceland took part in the Euro Cup in 2016.
Celebrities from Iceland.... It was a constant commotion, right behind our minds, and now we've been playing our first match in the World Cup - we can't look forward to what will come next! Whatever happens, Iceland will continue to party this important event for many years to come!
We had an unbelievable beginning, with perhaps the best side in the group:D And it is interesting that the Icelandic soccer bug has a somewhat surprising but beneficial impact on Icelandic people. Soccer and other sporting activities have contributed to reducing the consumption of alcohol and narcotics among young people in Iceland, as more and more children are being encouraged to play sport when they see such great idols in the state.
Iceland in terms of healthcare . How to see World Cup matches in Iceland? When you are in Reykjavík (or anywhere else in Iceland), you will most likely want to take part in the electrical environment throughout the state. Virtually every TV and video set in the state will show the World Cup matches.
I' ve seen the first match on Hlemmur Square (bar, inn, restaurants, hotel), where every match of the World Cup is shown. As the first weekend of July draws to a close, the Reykjavík Fringe Festival offers a series of thrilling activities so you can watch before or after a match and hear real life tunes, hear stand-up drama, try out installation or enchant!
You will even show children's movies at the same times as the games, so that you can take your child to a children's film if they are not interested in soccer. The" Stúdentakjallarinn" (Student Cellar) will also show every match where you will probably find a large number of people in the early twenty.
Some of the best music venues in Iceland.... Happy World Cup! I must say, when I think of Iceland, I think of icebergs, icy peaks, icebergs and volcanos, steams, geysers..... Vulcanic activities brought me to Iceland for the first in 2010 when I recalled the outbreak of the Eyjafjallajökull, which almost ended my holiday :)
The Kjölur Highlands is a 1,477 metre (4,846 ft) high mountains in the highlands of Iceland near the Kjölur Highways. Keep in mind that if you are a geologist, the Kerlingarfjöll Volcanoes are due to the crest that crosses Iceland in two parts. Kerlingarfjöll Itineraries If you want to make a trip, I suggest this trip (departure from Akureyri (Northern Iceland)): You have the opportunity to see both Kerlingarfjöll and Hveravellir (see photo below) in the centre of Iceland, another great place where you will find sheep that graze on a steaming country (believe me, it doesn't look real!) and have the possibility to take a swim in the small footpath in the indoor pools.
- Keep in mind to bring along hot, windtight and watertight clothing: Iceland' s rains are sometimes even horizontally, you must be prepared to be watertight for every part of your own bodies (shoes, trousers, jacket...) - keep in mind that this part of the highlands is very cold and the winds can be very beaufil.
Do you want to know why an umbrella does not work in Iceland? A clear sky and quiet breezes are a guy almost as unusual as a bats in Iceland. If you fly over Iceland, you will see how quickly the landscape underneath changes. A plane in a trailer is secure, but planes are not made for that.
