A Rapa Nui translation into another language: The Easter Isle (, ) is a chilenean isle in the southeast Pacific Ocean, at the southeast point of the Polynesian Triangle. The Easter Isle is known for its 887 preserved monuments, known as the mai, which were made by the early Rapa Nui. Easter Isle was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 and a large part of the islands is in the Rapa Nui National Park.
Rapa Nui are the indigenous Polynesians of the Easter Isle of Rapa Nui in the Pacific. Rapa Nui, the most eastern of Polynesia's cultures, currently accounts for 60% of the Easter Isle' populations and has a significant part of its Chilean continental part. Spanish is the main Spanish spoken on the islands, as well as the Rapa Nui Tradition.
The 2002 survey included 3,304 islanders - almost all of them in Hanga Roa on the protected western shore.
