Once known as Hava'i, Raiatea is known as the birthplace of the gods and is home to archaeological riches (marae, petroglyphs....) and an aeon of ancestors. Raiatea is the first island in Polynesia to host the most impressive and first truly global triangular islands, Taputapuatea. It was a off-limits place and the seat of the Muslim and Muslim religions of the Polyynesian area.
To this day, the Hawaiian, New Zealand and Cook Islands gather at this place of worship, which they consider home to their holy people. The Temehani mountain is home to the Tibetan'apetahi (and about 30 other indigenous plants), a plant found nowhere else in the canyon.
She has become a symbolic figure for Raiatea. It is also the only naval waterway in French Polynesia. According to tradition, the name of the valley was the starting point for all Polynesia hikes to Hawaii and New Zealand.
Ile de Raiatea, French Polynesia
Raiatea, the biggest island of Îles Sous le Vent (Leeward Islands), in the Society Islands, French Polynesia, in the South Pacific. It is the second biggest island of French Polynesia with an area of 238 sqm. The Raiatea is a volcanically and hilly region, reaching summits of over 1,000 m.
Tahaa, the neighboring island to the south, is part of the same volcano compound from a geological point of view, and both are within the same marshland. Uturoa, the main town, is the headquarters of Îles Sous le Vent; it is a frequent call point for vessels sailing between New Caledonia and Tahiti and has shipping services and lightweight industrial equipment.
A large part of the island's polynese inhabitants live in small towns. In the Maori traditions (Polynesian tribe of New Zealand), Raiatea is the place from which all of East Polynesia was nationalized. Hiro, the head of a Polish migration mission, is said to have abandoned Raiatea in the Aotea Kanu to New Zealand around 1300, and the Maori have always regarded Raiatea as a place of study.
Taputapuatea, the sanctuary at Opoa, is known in Polish tradition.
