Northern highlights: The best you can see and do
At the tip of the North Island, Nordland is an area full of great sights and activities. Because of the proximity to Auckland and the subtropical climates it is becoming more and more common to visit New Zealand. You should also read my Nordland Region Guide.
Whangarei: This is Northland's only small village, situated half way between Auckland and the Bay of Islands. There is a good choice of stores, eateries and tourist attraction. Beautiful holiday destination, an hour and a half north of Auckland. Fantastic beach, angling, surfing and hiking paths. Kerikeri: Kerikeri is the largest of the Bay of Islands cities and has excellent dining and some of New Zealand's most important historic landmarks.
The Mangonui is a small harbour town north of the Bay of Islands known for one thing: seafood and crisps. Northland' s beautiful coastline and some of the most beautiful in New Zealand. The top ten of the best northern US Northern Nude Beach of NorthlandNinety Mile Beach: It' not quite ninety mile long, but this long sandy section is even an offical New Zealand highways.
Bay of Iceland is Nordland's premier tourism destination and one of New Zealand's most exceptional locations. Be prepared to be amazed by the beautiful bay with its 144 isles and the Paihia and Russell adventurous centres. The Northland is the most historic and important part of New Zealand.
This is where the first Europeans established themselves, where the country's first capitol is located (Russell in the Bay of Islands) and where New Zealand's most important historic treaty, the Treaty of Waitangi, was written in 1840. It gives a intriguing glimpse into the early days of Europe's Northland settlements and how the area' evolution was inseparably linked to the clearance of the huge cauriwoods.
As the northernmost tip of New Zealand, this is a place of great natural and spiritual interest for the Maori. This is one of the few surviving New Zealand woodlands with examples of the giant indigenous forest, the cayuri. Island and nearby cliffs contain a wealth of sea creatures.
Northrhine-West is only a small actor in the New Zealand winemaking sector, but it does produce some interesting vintages. The Northland is not known for its good cuisine, but there are some pleasant places to dine. Italians, Kerikeri: Probably the best place to dine in the north of the country. Lovely café in the small city of Kaitaia in the far north with vegetable and vegetable dishes.
