Three Passes - Mera Peak - Lukla - Nepal Message Board

Hello Don, I am happy to learn that you are planing to revisit Nepal and explore the Everest area, as well as the Mera Peak Expedition. Regarding the hike I would like to suggest the following itinerary. Carrier is US$ 20 per person per night and tour leader is US$ 30 per person per night, inclusive of pay, accommodation and food.

Notice of the carrier's indictment similar to that of foreigners is not truth. You must also request the Meera Peak Permit, Makalu National Park Fee and Sagarmatha National Park Fee as well as the TIMS-Map. The best alternative, however, is to bring a Gokyo licenced tour leader and for Meera Peak you can take a carrier carrying your equipment from Lukla.

The Phaplu Everest Base Camp Trip is an alternate hiking tour in the Everest area. The Everest Base Camp is known for its Sherpa towns, abbeys and cultures, marvellous landscapes and the Sherpa villages' livelihood. The Phaplu Everest Gokyo is stunning and demands a good hiking adventure and good fitness.

In order to prevent the long coach ride to the pristine Jiri trailer head, we take a flight to Phaplu to start our hike through the much calmer Solukhumbu area. Continue northwards along the "milk river" through steep slopes and small towns to reach the road of Mt. Ernest below Lukla. Passing sherpa and Buddhist temples through the famed Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Buddhist Monastery, Khumjung dogs and far above the treeline to the highest peaks on the planet on our hike we will enjoy breathtaking vistas on Mount Everest 8848m, Cho Oyu 8152m, Lhotse 8516m, Thamserku (6506m), Makalu 8463m and Ama Dablam 6456m, Kantega and

It is a brief hike after 3 long working nights. 05 Day: Hike from Phaseing to Namche Bazaar (3440 m.), 5-6 hrs walk: It begins on a flat road along the right shore. From the river bed on the right shore the road leads into the hill, through a wood to Chumoa.

Following a road with many ups and downs, we traverse a brook and go through the small town of Monjo. Now, we go down the way of the rock stairs and go over a wood footbridge back to the right shore. On the right the Dudh Koshi and on the lefthand the Bhote Koshi, which goes to Nampa La, we take a brief stroll through the bed of this V-shaped canyon.

Shortly after a stretch along the Bhote Koshi the sharp rise to Namche Bazar begins. Zigzagging up the hill, we come out at a resting place with great view of Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8516m), the rise diminishes a bit and Namche Bazar comes before us as we go along the road, which is encircled by pinewood.

The Namche Bazar (3440m) is on three sides encircled by mountains and opens only where it faces the Bhote Koshi. It is a major centre of the area and you can buy groceries, snacks and even mountaineering outfits. Morning and mornings 06: Closed on Namche Bazaar (3440 m.) for acclimatization.

Situated between two mountain ranges in the middle of the huge Khumbu mountain tops, Namche offers a wealth of luxurious hotels, teashops and gift stores, as well as a wonderful view. It' an excellent place to take a relaxing acclimatisation holiday before going to Tyangboche.

To acclimatize we hike up to Khumjung, where we can see the cloister. You can also admire the magnificent vistas of Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Nuptse, Lhotse, Tawche, Kwangde and so on. At the end of a soft descend, the trail ends; we come to the turnoff to Gokyo. It' s a long ascent to Tyangboche; the first half is particularly sharp. Further uphill we come to the Steintor build by Llamas, which mark our entrance to Tyangboche (3860m).

The Tyangboche is an important vantage point on this course, and the sunsets on Everest and Ama Dablam are particularly nice. From Tyangboche to Dingboche (4260 m.), 5-6 hrs walk; Leaving Tyangboche and the Khumbu hills as background - and descending into a rhododendron-covered area to reach a comfortable plain.

On to Minlinggo we abandon the hill road to reach the Imja Khola's right side via a hanging gangway. Descend up the hill trail and watch Ama Dablam and Kantega (6779m) appear on the opposite shore. Climb up the chorten-lined trail, come to a turnoff, the top trail leads past Pangboche and a convent, take the bottom trail to Pangboche Olin and its rocky potatoeield.

Drive through the town and across a creek to a trail that leads a rugged area along the river bank to the terrace of a hill. The hike is quite modest from here, as we reach the Imjatse valley under the majestic summits of Ama Dablam, Nuptse and Lhotse with a view of the east snow-capped mountain range of Iceland Peak or Imjatse (6,189 m).

We have some stunning vistas of the northern face of Ama Dablam and the Lhotse-Nuptse crest as we discover this magnificent dale leading to Island Peak. This is a brief hike and a good opportunity to unwind in the afternoons. From Dingboche to Lobuche (4930 m.), 5-6 hrs on foot; Continue northwards for up to 50 minutes until we reach a Saintupa.

Today's hike provides a view of the Tawache, Ama Dablam and the Nord Cup (5741m), Kongma-tse (5820m) and the Great Nuptse Walls. From Pheriche near Dugla (4595m), after two hikes, the path ends in front of a small wood-bridged passage over the Khumbu Creek. In Dugla we stop for dinner before driving up a cliff for anhour to the peak, from where we have a view of Pumori and other summits just outside Everest.

Hike from Lobuche to Everest Base Camps ('5486m.) via Gorakshep (5180m.), 6-7 h. on foot. Hike up the cliffy morainic trail, see ice-covered glaciers and glaciers below the Khumbu-glaciers. Gorakshep is the site of the former Everest base camps with the new camps further up the valle.

This hike to Namche is very picturesque on a long, curvy trail. A 30-minute stroll from Khumjung takes us to the Khunde Hospital, financed by the Sir Edmund Hillary Trust. A picturesque and enjoyable stroll to Khunde leads us to Namche for the night.

Hiking-tour from Namche Bazaar to Phaseing (2640m.), 4-5 hrs. on foot; the hiking paths go downhill for one and a halfh. Afterwards the trail leads through Monjo up and down to the village of phakding. Hike from Lukla (2886m), 3-4 hrs on foot; Our last walk follows Dudh Koshi back to Lukla.
