Kalalau Trail is 11 mile long and lasts about one days. It is a good walk from Ha'ena State Park to Hanakapi'ai Beach.
For the more adventurous hiker, however, it is advisable to complete the whole itinerary. Considering the length of the walk (all days, one way only), you will need a camp permit (beyond the Hanakapi'ai valley) if you want to do the whole walk. Have a look at our recommendations for Hawaii.

A fistful of Kaua'i inhabitants gathered in 1995 and founded the Na Pali Coast 'Ohana. Their concern was the impact of years of open use of the more than 6,000 hectares of land in the Kalalau area. At the beginning of 2000, Ohana's voluntary work was recognized by the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The `Ohana to Malamas, maintenance and preservation of the Nu'alolo Kai heritage has been exclusively catered for. Captain Makai works voluntarily with this organisation and helps to keep the coast a vital target for Kauai. If you would like to help conserve this resource for future generations, please consider becoming a member or donate to this group.
