The American Samoa Red Sea eco-system is home to many types of Indo-Pacific marine life, other invertebrate animals and fish. American Samoa's algae are of cultural, economic and ecological importance for the territory. The American Samoa seaweed has largely recuperated from a number of disturbance in recent years, but the eco-system remains affected.
Drivers such as demographic change have led to degradation of the coast, fisheries pressures, wetland losses, land degradation and coastline sediments, management of heavy and dangerous wastes, and contamination, all of which have a detrimental effect on the state of the world' s fauna and flora. In addition, thorn-crown eruptions, damaging fisheries practice, bleach and diseases of corals have also affected the American Samoa marine canals.
Coordinating in American Samoa is the CRAG (Coral reef advisory group).
