The Oahu is one of 8 Pacific Ocean based Islands in Hawaii, about half way between California and Japan. Though Oahu is only the third biggest of the group, it is home to the overwhelming bulk of the state's people. It is a paradise with its mixture of stunning, breathtaking landscapes and amazing weathers.

WAIKIKIKI is the tourist destination of the state and the place where Duke Kahanamoku assisted in reviving windsurfing a hundred years ago. The waves range in altitude from 0.6 to 2.5 metres during the June to September summers and can become very large in very seldom cases, as in 1917, when Duke hit a 35-foot shaft (11+m) for a range of 2 km.

From Duke Beach near Hilton Hawaiian Village to Duke on Kuhio Beach, almost every single working days of the year literally means literally every hundred if not thousand of wave riders are surfing and enjoy the entertaining, user-friendly environment, unlike the savage and perilous North Shore.

Oahu, O'ahu, Honolulu Country, Hawaii, USA, Hawaii, Oahu is separate from the Kauai (northwest) and Molokai (southeast) by the Kauai and Kaiwi canals. Oahu, which is of vulcanic origins, is the third biggest of the islands of Hawaii with an area of 1,546 sqkm. and provides support to most of the population.

Tahitian settlers built lasting settlement on Oahu around 500 AD. 1795 Kamehamehameha I., Hawaii' s most famous emperor, captured Oahu and unified the islands of Hawaii. 1845 the kingly capitol was transferred from Lahaina, on Maui, to Honolulu, on Oahu, the today'sapolis. At the end of the nineteenth centuary, the empire was becoming more and more dominant with the interests of foreigners.

Her Majesty Queen Liliuokalani was ousted in 1893 (she tells the Hawaiian Queen in 1898 ), and the archipelago was invaded by the United States in 1898. Oahu became the center of the US Pacific Fleet in the twentieth century. It is the location of Pearl Harbor (where Japan's troops launched their first attacks against the United States in WWII), Waikiki (with its world-famous beaches) and the North Shore (known for surfing).

Besides Honolulu, Kailua, Kaneohe and Wahiawa are important towns. The Honolulu University is the headquarters of the University of Hawaii's central academic complex.
