North Island new Zealand things to do
New Zealand North Island ActivitiesYou will probably reach Auckland, from here you can rent a rental vehicle and travel from Auckland to Rotorua, which takes about 3-4 hours. Checks into your Rotorua guesthouse and goes to the Lone Star for supper (I would suggest making a reservation as it can be quite busy!).
Once you've stuffed the fullness of the stinking nature characteristics, take a dip and hop back in the auto........ Next up are the Huka Cases! The Huka falls is about 47 km away and leads through a wonderful landscape. Don't take the first turn-off to the Huka Falls you see as you end up in the shrimp fishery grounds which is not nearly as interesting as the Fall.... go on until you see a Huka Fall plaque.
These waterfalls are quite impressing with 220,000 liters of sparkling rain per second that rush through the small caves. When you have enough alone to spare your precious resources, take a short 9-minute trip over the waterfalls, showing the Huka falls, Taupo Municipality and Taupo Marina, returning across the crystalline Waikato River and the Aratiatia hydroelectric plant and back through the Wairakei thermal heat recovery vapor fields and back to the helicopter landing pad for 99 NZD per each.
Either take a quick stroll around the Huka falls, or go to Craters of the Moon (a kind of across the street ) if you don't have the full range of hot water geothermics, it costs $8 admission for a one-hour-stroll. Hike and picnic at Lake Taupo, which is about 5 km away.
Taupo is New Zealand?s biggest sea with an area of 616 sq km! Along the lakeside there are some nice little coffee shops and eateries, it's a nice place to charge your battery for your next stage of this Epic Drive. As soon as you have finished your meal it is off to go to Tongariro National Park (near Mordor alias Mount Ngauruhoe for the Lord of the Rings fans), the final destination is to land on the summit of Whakapapapa Ski Field.
Great Roadtrip Tips: stop at casual tour stop along the way, you're there to explore the sights, so take a look! It will be a more restful holiday today as you will remain in one place instead of going around, but it will not be dull as you will ski for the whole holiday at Whakapapa Ski Field and then go back to Rotorua to spend the nights there.
It is your last night in Rotorua, so we will make it an eventful one! You have to get up a little earlier and have your morning snack, then drive to the Rotorua skyline at 9 a.m., where you will be spending the next hour with luggage and maybe a few turns at the cable car.
ý (just make sure you examine the kind of cake you have chosen on the packaged one as I have chosen a chicken pâté ý from the slot ý and got a surprising fat and pancake! ý) Hobbiton is in Matamata - 79km ride ý (if you're really no Lord of the Rings supporter, then you can give this one a loss, but I would strongly suggest it, it's a funny experiance and you get to see some sets from the films.
Duration of the trip is about 2 hrs, which gives you ample opportunity to take pictures and ask the guides many interesting question. It' s your turn to go to Auckland, get checked into your accommodation, get room services and just unwind, you deserve it! The journey from Matamata to Auckland is 176 km long.
Again (sorry!) it is good to get up early, but not too early (you are sleeping in a mini-sleep) to enjoy a small morning meal, since your first stop will be the Skytower......... Booking the first vault of the morning at 10:15 am with a check-in at 10 am. As soon as you are checked in and weighted (probably the most gloomy part haha!).
Together with your own writing on your hand!), they will go with a sweet little jumpsuit and your life-saving belt and up to the summit you go. They' gonna pack you up, inspect your seat belt and take some pictures, then they'll take you to the rig, connect you to the Skyjump machine (a.k.a. the thing that keeps you from crushing on the byway) and they'll say, "I'm gonna tally down and on 1, let go of the grids and kick out.
Entire skydiving process from check-in to finishing the dive only lasts about 45 minutes to one full hours (the dive itself lasts 11 seconds), but it's fast and costs $225 per capita (adult price)! From the Heletranz Heliport, where a chopper will take you to the Man-O-War Winery on Waiheke Island, you'll stay about an hours with a winetasting and a walk along the wonderful beaches, until the driver orders you in advance and leads you to the Mudbrick Vineyard for a marvellous 3-course dinner and a winetasting if there's plenty of free time and then back to Auckland, either by chopper or you can take the boat back to get another sight.
