Hawai'i Chronicles Three - Google Literature

Over 350 Japonese bomber, fighter and missile fighter aircrafts beat Hawaii in two shafts, sunk or deactivated eighteen vessels and destroyed more than two hundred airplanes. Hawaii' islands were drawn into the Pacific Wars and the life of their inhabitants was irreversibly warped. Hawai'i Chronicles III: World war Two in Hawai'i deals with the personal and societal effects of the 1938 Hawai'i conflict on the population, when speculations about a Pacific conflict first emerged, up to the post-war age.

Publisher Bob Dye has chosen items initially published in the much-loved Paradise of the Pacific monthlies ("Honolulu Magazine"). The paradise of the Pacific offered its readership an insightful, sensitive and often amusing look at this and other daily experience of warfare in Hawaii.

Tamerlane's thoughts: Fly to Niihau

Our journey to Niihau was the high point of our holiday. It was not only hard to get to, but it was also the first case that I rode in a heli. Sixty-nine and a half sq. m. Niihau is an isle of 17. Approaching it via its east rocks, we drove around the entire length of the peninsula in a counterclockwise direction.

Landing on a remote shore at the northwest tip, opposite Lehua Isl. (This U-shaped isle is shown on the bottom map). You can only get to the islands by Niihau heli. Robinson brother, the owner of the archipelago, purchased a chopper for evacuation. There, on general basis, it serves two to three flights a year (' 5 to 7 passengers per trip).

However, since medicinal air travel, the use of force (for a radio base on the island) and housing use have priority, it is more the norm than the rule to be pushed. We are located in an unidentified location just outside Port Allen on the southern side of Kauai. Agusta on wheels is the state' s quickest civil chopper.

LEHÜA is on the right. When you look carefully, you can see that Niihau almost touched Lehua. One could think from a distance that Niihau was just the rocks, but there is also an important, low, shallow area between Lehua and the Niihau rocks. A/C' is too much (600 pounds) for the chopper, so we put our hands out the windows to let in a little bit of coolness.

Niihau, a very dry place, has the biggest seas of the country. LEHÜA is in the back. I' ll publish a photo of one we saw on the shore in the morning. In order to preserve their private sphere, we have not taken any photos of the city or its inhabitants. Believe me, I really wanted to take pictures of the cars to be shared with all of you, but there were almost always one or two people in or next to the cars.

The focus is on Lehua and Niihau in the back. Landing on Niihau, we first went around the beaches on the right and then we went to the south. One can hardly see any of the old vehicles in this photo.
