The Ngulu Atoll

The Ngulu Atoll stretches over a wide area of the oceans and demands continuous observation and control. 1 ) enhanced airborne visibility on the atoll and 2) basic research evaluations. At our site in Ant Atoll, Pohnpei, we are currently implementing an advanced radarsystem. WiFi connection exists, which means that a local Ngulu based Ethernet connection could be deployed to ensure full cover of the areas under management.

At the end of 2016, we are hoping to find funding and expand this work. In addition, the many Ngulu coral corals are available for basic evaluation by our scientific mates. The project will give us important information about the Yap and Ngulu cliffs and help us to establish a connection with Palau near by.

Our Vibrant Reefs, Patriving Communities campaign aims to establish a ecosystem of bioconnectivity, social commitment and intercultural outreach.

New Atoll, Micronesia | Worldwide Cruise Center

The Ngulu Atoll is an isle in the Caroline Islands of the West Pacific. Situated in the Federated States of Micronesia, about 200 northeastern of Palau. It is the capitol of the state of Yap, which also manages Ngulu, Yap itself and 13 other etolls, which extend to the west and southwards for about 800 km, namely Eauripik, Elato, Fais, Faraulep, Gaferut, Ifalik, Lamotrek, Ngulu, Olimarao, Piagailoe (West Fayu), Pikelot, Sorol, Ulithi and Woleai tolls.

The Ngulu Atoll is a small insulated small animal sandy beach with lush foliage and palms, lined with a layer of whitish algae sands, extending in all directions to the equator. Though it is a small part of the archipelago, the large area of the Laguna is sheltered from the depths of the oceans by an extended barriere islet.

Harbour location - Cruise liners moor in the Ngulu Atoll and are brought ashore with a tendership. Connections - Micronesia can be accessed by plane from Honolulu, Manila and Guam (flights from the USA, Australia and Asia). Circle Micronesia Airlines from Los Angeles or San Francisco or Guam originate from Auckland.

CHUUUK has a charter airline that operates to the outside isles, but the ship is the least expensive means of transport between the isles. The Yap International Airport is served by Continental Micronesia, a Continental Airlines company.
