Navini
filetNavini Island Resort, Fiji Review - Passport & Journal
As my sojourn on the way from San Diego to Sydney was so short (only 3 days), I knew that I wanted to remain somewhere near, if not on the capital because my plane in Nadi ended up on the capital Viti Levu.
So I quickly excluded a visit to the principal isle, as its shores were not what I had imagined for a paradise holiday, and concentrated my research on a smaller isle not too far from the principal isle. Landing at Nadi International you will be picked up by Henry from the terminal and driven 20 min to the jetty where you will take the Navini for the 30 minute trip to Navini Iceland.
There is a small sandy beach and the whole isle has a small sandy beach. When approaching the Isle, take off your boots and boots if your soles get soaked, when you walk from the tender to the jetty - the holiday begins when your soles contact the sands!
A number of employees wave and shout "Bula" from the harbour to welcome you to the isle. They' ll take you on a stroll around the islands and accompany you to your Boer (hut), and at some point your pockets will appear magic on your doorframe. They have 3 lunches a days in the eating area with all other people.
There were only about 12 people per night during my sojourn, and the full seating is only 30, so you can meet other people at meals or eat out. You will have a busy schedule of resting in a hammock between your Boer and the sea, hounding crayfish, sleeping on deck tables under tikis, searching the shores for nice mussels while washing at high water, swimming in the glistening blue water and going on the hunt for Nemo fishing with your snorkelling outfit.
Whatever you do, there will be much or nothing to do - whatever you like. When you want to get tired of this 2.5 hectare piece of blank sandy beach, the islands have a wealth of aquatic activities (all of which are supplied ) - paddle boards, canoes, sacyles, hobies and a bodyboard thing with a windows, so you can "snorkel" without sticking your face in the sea.
When you don't know how to sails, one of the friendly crew will take you on a beautiful sailing boat around the Hobie on the Hobie Cats. (Tip: you get up a big treetop and get a cool coconut!). There' is also a day trip to a local hamlet or snorkelling spot and a lively 4pm session of sandvolley.
In the evening, after supper, guests and co-workers gather in the eating area to enjoy cava ( "kava roots ") and to enjoy Vidi Vidi (a boardgame like billiard with small slices). I' ve learnt so much during my short sojourn with Navini - I have learnt that crayfish come to life in the evening, that you can sway in a Hamburg mat if you lay diagonal over it and press your feet against the belt,
that" baw kaw kawa " means papayas and Fiji are tasty, that" bula" means hello and" vinaka" means thanks in Fijian, that even without instagram filters and that Fiji has some of the world' s hottest and friendliest humans, can really look like turquoises. 1 ) if you are checking the wheather for Nadi, Fiji before your journey, don't be angry that it shows rainy every single working Sunday - it is raining in Nadi much more than it is raining on Navini Iceland; 2) record any deal on the website for free transport to and from the Iceland and reserve your sojourn accordingly (stay 4 nights, get 1 sense free; stay 7 nights, get 2 senses free);
3 ) If you snorkel at the sandbank on one of the early mornings, ask the dude to land you at the side of the dive so you don't have to go down to the sandbank - at low water you float dangerally near the seaweed, which can harm the seaweed and your knee (plus, it's a long stroke to the side of the reef).
I' m told that it can often rains on the islands, like in any tropic place, but during my sojourn the only droplets of sea dripping out of my sight were the teardrops as I climbed on the ship and said good-bye to paradise. Navini for the good times.
