Queen Hwy - Nadi to Suva - Fiji
From Brisbane to Nadi Early.... it was best described, since everyone showed up, let's get this show on the street and we flew out of Brisbane airport! Only disadvantage was that we reached Nadi 45 minutes earlier and our trip was only shown at 6.00 o'clock in the morning after the customs and so on.
It took about 3 hrs. , no live-sleeping! Arriving at Nadi airport in Fiji 45 min earlier than planned....... The elevator eventually came, it was a hurricane of gossip, Fijian Indians and the neighbor next to us, who was agitated on our way in and quickly handed us the truck for our workadventure.
When we had dropped off our guests, we drove to Suva. Riding is quite a challange in Fiji, the roads change at every turn from a beautiful slippery, driveable terrain to huge holes where, if they were larger, you could never be seen again. You have to avoid these holes on the other side of the street in many places.
You' ve got to keep your mind about you, because passing is something acceptable, but not tolerated on hazardous corners with dual curves, over bumps in speeds etc, but many do. Be careful when you approach a town, these hills are not always well signposted, when you reach 80 km you know them!
When you approach a town, decelerate to 50 km. If they have feet, there is the possibility that they all run across Queens Hwy on Fiji time. So be cautious and wait for the unknown. Sva is 200km away from Nadi and we have already started our trip wearily. So this is not a good combo.
I have not got mine, but I have a few specifications, the vehicle has to be in good mechanic condition.... no odd noise from the wheel and in an emergencies it has to reach over 80 kilometers per hours. Windshield cleaners should not break every time you run into a cruise control, especially when it rains, I want AC, but if that's not possible, the front seat should open.
Gary would repair it with tights or bubble wrap, Gary just rides it the way it is! The drive along the Coral Coast reminded me of the drive to Port Douglas in the far northern part of Queensland, every time I traveled like this, I think of the twisty street just off Cairns. Both of us were weary after our red-eye trip from Brisbane, so we pulled over for a cup of tea at Hideaway, I don't know how the lodging is, but the swimming pools area is amazing with dazzling blue crowding your ears.
A few hour drive along Queens Hwy and some pits we reached the Novotel Lami bay, a singular situation directly at the cove and about 10 minutes away from Suva.
