Although it is only divided from the well-kept West Maui resort by the 14 km Pailolo Canal, it is a secluded place from the established tourist attractions of the more renowned of Hawaiians. Aside from the geographic meaning of the term, the long and slender Molokai is truly an isle - insulated and singular, with a powerful taste that has evolved despite (or perhaps because of) its well-worn brothers from Hawaii.

Molokai is home to more Hawaiians than anywhere else in the Hawaiian Islands, so if you're looking for what's remaining of the "real" Bahamas - the good and the evil - try this isle. Molokai offers memorable and personal experiences for lovers of the outdoors, and the northern bank of the islands has the highest rocks in the whole wide range, over 914 metres high.

Molokai slim, slightly wavy form, accentuated by a few peninsula nicks, has brought him some kind of old-fashioned shoes or similar to the form of a fishy sharks (many natives say it is a shark), for less navy-interested people. No skyscraper or condo hotel here - "no building higher than a walnut tree", as the marketer' s books prouds. To preserve the indigenous people' s traditional and lifestyle of Hawaii anecdotes, the inhabitants have decidedly opposed the "sell-out" and profitable tourist models of Maui and others.

Much of the trials on resort-type deployments -- which would ensure a hundred new jobs -- have turned out on Molokai. Even the environmentally friendly Molokai Ranch, the island's biggest employers, closed all its businesses in 2008 (120 unemployed) after encountering persistent opposition to its growth plan. Molokai with its oversleep cities and relatively few possibilities for eating and staying overnight is suitable for many tourists as a daily excursion from Maui, whether by plane from Kahului or by ferry from Lahaina.
