New Maui Travel PlannerPlan a trip in Maui
There are so many places to go, things to do, places to see - it can be confusing to be planning your trip with so much competition for your spot. It is highly recommended that you go directly to Maui; this can spare you a 2-hour stay in Honolulu and another flight.
Arrival by Air - If you imagine Maui in the form of a shoulder and skull, you will probably reach Kahului Airport (OGG) near your throat. There are many carriers offering air services to Maui directly from the US continent, such as Hawaiian Airline (; 800/367-5320), Alaska Airline (; 800/252/7522), United and United.
Maui is the only destination for air travel to Canada via Air Canada (www.aircanada.com; 888/247-2262) and West Jet (www.westjet.com; 888/937-8538), both departing from Vancouver. There are other large airlines stopping in Honolulu, where you can take a stopover to Maui in Hawaiian. Mokulele Airlines (www.mokuleleairlines.com; 866/260-7070), a small commuting airliner, operates from Honolulu to Kahului airport and the other two airports of Maui.
When in Lahaina or Kaanapali, you can fly to or from Kapalua-West Maui Airport (JHM). It is only a 10 to 15 minute car ride from this small, one-piece airport to most West Maui hotel, as compared to an hours or more from Kahului. The same history with Hana Airport (HNM):
Direct flight saves you a 3-hour-trip. The Mokulele also operates flights between Maui, Molokai, the large island and Lanai by boat. Aeroplanes fly low and the view between the isles is excellent. Kahului Touchdown - When you rent a vehicle, go to the check-in counters shortly after you check your luggage.
Each of the big landlords has offices in Kahului. When you don't rent a vehicle, the Maui coach (www.mauicounty. gov/bus; 808/871-4838) is the least expensive way to leave the city. Just walk across the road at the luggage counter and service under the canopy. The SpeediShuttle Maui (; 877/242-5777). The price (one way, from the Aiport, for a split van) ranges from $18 to Wailea and $31 to Kaanapali.
For example, West Maui Taxi (; 888/661-4545) can take up to six passengers from Kahului Airport to Kaanapali for $80. Check out the State Visitor Information Centre at Kahului Airport luggage reclaim for booklets and the latest edition of This Week Maui, which includes great local map. Before you plan your trip, please make sure that you discuss all prices and detail directly with the respective company.
