Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora (high volcano islands) and Rangiroa, Manihi, Tikehau and Fakarava (flat atolls) are the most visited islands, as well as the wonderful high islands Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa of Marquesas Archellaga. These islands are the only ones that rank among delux, first grade and moderately priced accommodation.
All the other islands of Polynesia are isolated islands. Every single of the islands is different. Société l'Archipelago (consisting of the islands of Winward and Leeward) is a group of high islands in the tropics and islets: the islands are encircled by lagoons: The volcanic summits reflected in the calm lagoon water, full of sea creatures.
It is the biggest of the Polynesia islands and has 76 islands and an area of more than 20 000km². Marquesas is a 1500 km northeastern island of Tahiti, with its mighty landscape, rocks and steep summits and steep canyons. Over 600 km from Tahiti, the Australian Islands maintain the seductive power of a savage, protected and enigmatic country.
More than 1700 km eastwards of Tahiti, the Gambier Islands are a little off the mainstream, but its unique historical and mysterious ambience makes the journey worthwhile: unspoilt nature resources, abundant populated plains and coves and streams full of marine life.
