Map of Efate Island Vanuatu
Efate Island Vanuatu Mapefate map - Port Vila Forum
Anyway, one of the problems I had was to find a proper map of Efate (especially one with the resort/hotel locations on it.) Anyway, I thought I would split these two of them. Well on ya, Physio - it's certainly a bit hard to get good tickets from Efate on-line (I recall fighting there before my trips).
For your information, one of the best things to do is to pick up a Jason's (I think!) map of the island, which is available at the airports and at the reception of most of the resort, on your flight there. The thread has been discontinued due to apathy. If we do not comply with our policies, we will delete any postings and we retain the right to delete postings for any cause.
Vanuatu 10 day sample program
Vanuatu is Vanuatu Principal Island and its capitol Port Vila is a vibrant yet dense city protected by a gorgeous cay. When you leave the city, it's just a few days of planting coconuts, bathing and empty bays just wait to be explored by adventure seekers!
Except you are on a recreational holiday with your families, there is no need to waste too much of your leisure on this island, as Vanuatu's charms lie mainly in its Outlying Isles. It was the first island I traveled to on a six-month journey through the South Pacific, and it was a mixture of adaptation to a new "holiday routine", a good cultural shake and a marvelous exploration.
Overnight in Port Vila? There' is no lack of accommodation, resort, guesthouse and B&B in Port Vila. A true haven for price-conscious travellers in Port Vila, the motel offers accommodation for family, couple and even backpacker in a comfy dormitory. A pick up from the V1,000 can be booked if you don't want to take a common or personal cab.
When the Traveller's Budge Motel is fully occupied (and it could be that fast), the Vila Hibiscus Motel is just a stone's throw away and a "safe" choice for budgeting travellers. Please browse this page to see the available accommodation in Port Vila that you can reserve now. When you arrive during the day, you can take a collective taxicab to and from the app. V150.
Take the collective cabs outside the home station at the Aiport. A collective cab ride around Port Vila should not be more than V150, and if you are just outside the city (e.g. Mele Cascades), you should be prepared to purchase it. There are no roads in Port Vila, but there should be sketches in your accommodation.
Take special care when you walk through Port Vila at nights, as most roads are not light. Sundays are a very calm days in Port Vila and most companies take a free time. The Efate is surrounded by a well-maintained asphalt track that is easy to drive, but its interior is usually taboo.
Begin your first full days in Vanuatu with a hike through Port Vila. Hike along the lakeside promenade and go to the colourful open-air fair. It is the biggest Vanuatu store, open all working days and Saturdays until 2 pm. During the mornings the fair is full of locals from all over the island selling fruit and veggies, packaged sweets and more.
You will find stands with island fashion, memorabilia and the possibility to have your own wicker. There is an outstanding meal on the other side of the table, but we will come back to that in a moment. Well, now that you're all warm, go to Hebrida Place Square, just across the street.
The covered fair is a small labyrinth of hallways in which the indigenous ladies diligently sew colourful outfits. If you are not into island fashion, the store is an ideal place for your favourite souvenir, such as the "coconut bra". Shortly before midday we return to the open-air fair for launch. There is a fast'takeaway' area in the center of the store, but that didn't look very attractive when I was there.
Mark a collective cab for a 10-minute drive to Evergreen Cascades Waterfall, better known as the Mele Cascades (ride should be in the form of a V300). Coming from Mele Cascades, you can either walk or take a cab to Tanna in Devil's Point Road. Astonishingly, on Tanna Island, the trails of Mount Yasur are used to grow coffees that provide livelihoods for literally any family.
Take the small Mele to Hideaway Island V1,250 from Mele Island, one of the top tourist destinations in Port Vila. This small island is home to a celebrated holiday destination and the only submarine postal service in the whole wide open - that's right! If you missed the chance at the fair, you can have your meal after snorkelling on the island rocks.
It is in quite good condition and should be even more healthy when you go there, thanks to the'coral gardening' where new corals grow on small plates of sand on the bottom of the dive. Don't miss the chance to check out the undersea mail and return home a picture card of this strange stick.
But if you haven't found out yet, here's a secret: Vanuatu is a big city! Hire a vehicle for a full days Efate (see'Vanuatu Essentials Travelling Tips'). Shortly before you leave the city, stop at the main square and buy some fruit and treats for the outing.
Head counterclockwise and start with a short side trip to an informal vantage point with a view of the port of Port Vila. Outside the city, there is nothing but infinite plantation of coconuts and hardly anyone on the street. Don't be amazed if you don't see too many traffic signals. It' common in Vanuatu.
Down on the street, Eton Beach can be another stop if you feel like a swim in the sea (V500). Undoubtedly the high point of this journey was the midday break in Taka Village. While you are pampered with traditional food, you will be welcomed by the natives in Vanuatu!
It is so good that even organised daily excursions from Port Vila take the trouble to get here in good season for noon. From Taka Village to Port Havannah, the soft ride takes you along the island's secluded north shore. Along the way you will be crossing some streams, passing other coir estates and maybe even meeting lucky looking kids who return home from work.
In Havannah Harbor, you can have a cup of tea at Gideon's Landing at Eco Lodge and unwind on this quiet sandy spot where Survivor Vanuatu filmed. Today, this part of the island is home to upscale hotels and restaurant- but you can spend a few easy hour on the water.
The trip on the island ends with a picturesque downhill run from Efate's highland back to Port Vila. If you are not going to Tanna Island, you should take the Lelepa Island sightseeing trip or go to Ekasup Village in Efate.
