Weather forecast Fiji
In Fiji, the best period to go is winter or the drought period from April to November. In addition to the best weather on the beaches, this period offers fewer "tourist melting" peaks in terms of weather conditions, fewer rain showers and a lower chance of hurricanes in the rainfall. Fiji has a temperate and steady weather for most of the year, with mean peak outside the 21-31 degrees Celsius area.
The general principle is that the smaller the isle, the less precipitation it gets (the position is also a factor), with the two major islands getting the most rains during the rainy period. There is a predominant trade winds cooling Fiji almost all year round from the east and southeast.
While it storms over the tops of the bigger islands, cloud forms and there is more rain on its windwards. Fiji's rainy period is a result of the southern movement of the South Pacific Convergence Zone and usually runs from December to April (although precipitation does not occur exclusively in the rainy period and is present throughout the year).
During the rainy period, most of the yearly rains in Fiji occur in the shape of typically strong but short downpours. Whirlwinds can occur between December and April, but they are seldom alarming. Fiji's major islands (Viti Levu & Vanua Levu) get between 2000mm - 3000mm of precipitation per year in lowland and coast areas and over 6000mm in the mountain.
