Jörn Rohde, the Maldivian ambassador for Germany, tweetted: "We' re told that major European airlines are suspending their services to the Maldives for the winter season." The Maldives were surprised when they published their tourist numbers this weekend, resulting in a 17 percent increase in worldwide arrival rates in the first three month of 2018.

The number of vacationers in the UK rose by 12.2 percent from 29,088 to 32,633. "All our passengers travel to the airfield, which is situated on a distinct isle, and are taken directly to their resort by floatplane or canoe. There was no effect on the resort or the airfield, with operations as usual. China's visitor numbers fell most sharply, from 73,135 in the first three moths of 2017 to 72,539 this year.

In February, during the Maldives riots, the Ministry of State of Israel warned: Overall, Europe grew by 23.2 percent, America by 23.4 percent. Firstly, a number of airline companies have started or intensified operation in the Maldives. From November 2017 Air France launched two new weekly services, which led to a 23.7 per-cent rise in the number of passengers travelling to France in the first three months of 2018 compared to the previous year.

In 2017, Alitalia announces a new flight plan that will increase the number of Italian aircraft arriving in 2018 by 25 percent. In the near future, Mr Elihad will participate with four extra Abu Dhabi to Maldives routes, increasing the number of flight connections per week to eleven. The number of tourist destinations - at least 23 new ones are to be opened in 2018 - and especially the number of gîtes in the Maldives is also increasing significantly.

And as the global preference for more private home share locations such as Airbnb and HomeAway has grown sevenfold over the last five years, from 70 in 2013 to 467 in 2018.
