Located 24 mile from Key West, Little Torch Key is home to local people who live and work from Big Pine Key to Key West. It is also a great place for those who like to travel to the famous Key West stop. The island has a few but not many shops, which include places to eat and accommodation.

As all keys in the Torch Keys, this was probably given its name from the local Amyris Elemifera L trunk wood and the northern end of the keys is the site of a former village that was given up when the motorway was moved in 1938. His most likely right to glory is as a relatively common angling spot for US President Harry S. Truman.

In a Reuters tale on February 14, 2009, one of the resorts was listed as one of the "Top 10 Most Romance Retreats". The Little Torch Key is called after the wood of the gatewood and is located just South of Big Pine Key.
