The city Levuka is located on the east shore of the Fiji Ovalau Islands, which belongs to the Lomaiviti Islands. Today Levuka has about 3000 inhabitants. From 1874 to 1883, the city was the capitol of Fiji when the capitol relocated to Suva. The city was declared a historical city in 1989 and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in June 2013.

The Ovalau is a luxuriant 100 sq. km volcano in the tropics, encircled by large sea canals. This is the Lomaiviti group's principal archipelago, consisting of the following islands: Namena, Makogai, Koro, Wakaya, Batiki, Nairai, Gau and Ovalau. Approximately 40 min from the city, the runway is located on the west side of the isle and is served by a city bus**.

The Patterson Brothers boat trip (tel. 3315 644, e-mail protected) has a dayly shuttle and shuttle from Suva to Levuka. Situated in the "centre" of Levuka, you have a beautiful sight of the ocean and the activity on the road from the 1st storey. The Whales Tale Restaurant is situated directly on Beach St. in the " city centre " of Levuka. The Whales Tale serves delicious Mediterranean food in a relaxed area.

Local Seasite Restaurante where you can taste local food from India, Europe and Fiji. The Koro Makawa Klub, right behind the hotel is a nightlife for local people and visitors. At the Ovalau in the Ovalau Valley, next to the Town Hall and the ruins of the Masonic Lodge, the oldest in the South Pacific, regular guests come for a post-work drinking, occasionally dancing on weekends.

The Levuka is a good starting point to discover the island of Ovalau or some of the surrounding islets. He' s not difficult to find. An unspoilt beaches around the islands, with good snorkelling just a few metres from the coast. The Leleuvia Island[5] Bigger but just as nice as Caqelai, Leleuvia provides daily excursions as well as cheap accommodation. Transport to Leleuvia is possible from both Levuka and Suva. The city of Yanuca Lailai[6] is situated on the Yanuca Lailai Islands, just south of the Ovalau Isle.
