Lake Christmas Island

FROM WHERE LAKE WINNIPESAUKEE BEGINS.

Christmas Island was known as Plummer Island before it was re-named by a designer around 1950. Today the island is a closed commune of privately owned houses; a gateway at the island entrance restricts the entrance to the island's proprietors and their visitors. Its name was somewhat deceptive, as the name of the Christmas Island Estate, which was constructed in 1954, was not on the island but on the island opposite the isle.

It was finally shut down in early 2013 after being resold to a builder who wanted to tear down the 45-room site and construct 18 luxurious cityhouses. The empty complex burnt down on 28 September 2013 before the demolition ball and dozers could start rolling.

There are two dishwashing machines, a dishwasher, a sub zero fridge/freezer, an icemaker, a refrigerator and all the latest equipment. There is a large chimney in rock separating the cuisine from the eating area, which offers an enormous dinner with 16 places and an unbelievable view of the lake. All four rooms are furnished with king-size bedding and have a wonderful view of the lake.

Hidden in a seperate room, directly in the Muskoka rock, the guest will find a lounge area with several barstools. On the lower floor there is also a practice area with a running belt and tennis court as well as a two-part bath room with open rockfaces. It is a 25 hectare island in the centre of Lake Muskoka.

Chrismas Island is wonderfully situated in the heart of Lake Muskoca - about 5 minutes by ferry from Walkers Point Marina in the Beaumaris Archipelago. Situated in the middle of the city, the house is sunny all afternoon - the rooms are sunny in the mornings, while the midday and the evening rays can be seen from the two docks. It has never been deforested, so there are several hundred year old treetops and a wide range of different types on the area.

It is immaculately maintained, with well-kept lawn and stonewalks.
