Lau in Fiji in the south of the Pacific consists of more than 60 small isles. About half of these inhabited isles. All of the area is 188 sq. m or 487 sq. km. Vanua Balavu, Lakeba, Fulaga, Ono-i-Lau and Vatoa are some of the most visited of them.
You will be impressed by all this with magnificent nature vistas, sandy powdered shores, blue water and a variety of sea creatures and seaweed.
Lau Lake District
Lau archipelago is located on the eastside of the Fiji archipelago eastward of the Koro Sea and consists of a string of about sixty isles, thirty of which are ininhabited. Lau Group has a surface area of 487 km2, with a total of 10,683 inhabitants at the last surveys in 2007.
Most of the north Lau group are high volcanically originated islets, whereas the southern islets are mostly low-carbonated. Lau Provincial Council has supported and established the Lau Yaubula Support Team (YMST), which is made up of members from five (5) archipelagos. This archipelago comprises North Lau (Vanuabalavu, Tuvuca, Cicia); Central Lau (Lakeba, Oneata, Nayau), Yasayasa Moala (Moala, Totoya, Matuku, Vanuavatu); Southern Lau (Moce, Komo, Namuka, Kabara, Fulaga, Ogea) and Far Southern Lau (Ono, Vatoa).
