The fishpond Alekoko Menehune, constructed almost 1,000 years ago, just a few steps from Lihue, has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973.

Nawiliwili Harbour, the Kauai Port since 1930, is a scenic environment that accommodates many cruisers. Situated at the estuary of the Hule'ia stream, named after the Wiliwili tree that once dominated the area.
