Wellcome to FIJI ! The Fiji region was our last but one goal for 2016, and more than administered to meet the great reputations proposed by our cruise partners. In the past, if you visited our blogs, you may remember that our windlass in Aitutaki, Cook Islands, failed (almost catastrophically) during our last recover.
Since we did not understand what kind of mechanic assistance was in front of us in Tonga, we resolved to bypass Tonga and drive directly to Fiji, where the assistance was secured. FIJI's arrival under such circumstances (an unscheduled goal and the possibility to quickly modify plans), however, was tremendously worthwhile. On our trip to Fiji I contacted James Ellingford / N62-PENDANA.
Ahead of the meeting, James said that Port Denarau Marina is the right place and asked us to organize our Fiji trip with customs, agents and services. Once the inspections in Fiji were complete, we immediately broke into the hydraulic winch issue. After that we chose to hire a vehicle for a few nights and inspect Nadi while flying our parts from New Zealand to Fiji.
However, this case I chose to employ pros to support the venture because I was emotionally and emotionally tired from the anchor-failure tragedy and the week-long Fiji through. These last two and a half day I was on "high alert" when we dragged ourselves through Fiji's inadequately mapped water. JOSEPHINE MORRIS (Jo), our representative from Yacht Partners Fiji, checked the parts through customs and shipped them to our vessel within a few hour.
During our whole stay in the fishery of Fiji, Jo has looked after INFINITY in an excellent manner. So we hired a vehicle for a few nights and drove around Nadi to see what we could see. I can understand, like when Julie and I had'garden fever' when we had our home, but I thought this journey to the gardens was more of a journey to take some extra sweetness.
It' a tipical atmosphere,,,, great place! While in Port Denarau we had a great pair (Gerard & Trish Knight). As we sat at the'Rhumba' in Port Denarau Marina (PDM) and sipped rhum and coke, we saw one of the most beautiful sailing boats I have ever seen slipping in.
As I studied the ship from our own stool, I had come to this realization: "Our day here will be cool". SuRi was at our port. This airplane was actually dropped off by SuRi. It seemed the right moment to be substituted by a newer one. Yep,,,,,, With our windstill fixed, and our shops refilled, it was again to move on and explore FIJI.
Musket Cove was just around the bend, a must near Nandi. Our moment of arriving at Muskett Cove was simply ideal. Bar & Pizzeria in the heart of the Ro-Ro Reef, opposite the island Malolo. You can only get there by small dinghy.
Anchoring your vessel directly from the deck or tying it to the deck rails like we do. Musket Cove became one of the most quiet and quietest places we've ever been after race time. Because all ferries were fully loaded, our journey to the southern isle had failed.
So because we are freezing and we need some heat, we decided to book 10 nights in Fiji instead. Afterwards we had a funny afternoons at Plantation Island Resort. But we can't be here forever. Anchoring & head northerly to the Yasawa Isles! The first stop on the Yasawa Island trip was Navadra Island, which is made up of two small coves.
It is the ideal island you are dreaming of, and we divided the cove with just a few other boats all our while there. We had the most beautiful views of the hillside next to us from our boats. "It seemed like a good plan to go up this mountain" at the moment. At our top! My favorite picture of Navandra!
At our next station, only 15 sea nautical leagues from Navandra, is Waya Island. Navigation through the Fijian Islands is by day and only by visibility. {\a6}(Entrance to Blue Lagoon). During the anchoring in Nalauwaki Bay we spend some quality leisure with Greg & Karen (s/v ENTICE) and they talked about some of the things they were enjoying during their sojourn in Blue Lagoon.
So when they proposed to take us to a near -by island to buy groceries and crawl with Shirley sludge, it seemed like a good game. So we went over to a neighboring island near the Blue Lagoon and bumped into the vegetable grower who greeted us for everything that was going on during the year.
On one of my mornings canoe trips, on our third days at anchors,,,,,, look! Neil the Man! Everything flushed up on the way to the nightly festival of Fiji. Sawa I Lau was another calm anchoring place in the Fiji Islands area. The site is also known for its submarine cavern layout, which is open to cruise ships and seeks an anchoring site for the tender.
As we meander through the Tuamotus Islands, French Polynesia and the Fijian Islands, I have done more freediving and like it! now that it reminded me of FIJI. Shortly before the setting day I took out the paddleboard and paddled around the rocky and flat water area.
When the Yasawas' storms had eased, we took the anchors and drove on to Fiji's North Island Vanua Levu. You have decided to construct a home and live in Fiji part-time. Quiet water with a lot of clear deep water and vibrating space (although I am a Nordhavn lover, I appreciate these very targeted dashews).
Our tanker arrives on time. We spent a pleasant weekend in Savusavu (we promised to return), took the mooring and drove back to Nadi to make arrangements for our last trip to New Zealand. Back in Nadi we anchored again in Musket Cove. We organised the entry and refuelling in Port Denarau from here.
