Huaheine enchants you from the beginning. Just 40 minutes by plane from the Tahiti Isles, the enchanting Hua Hine with its luxuriant woods, wild landscapes and picturesque towns is one of Tahiti's best-kept mysteries, a place where you can feel like a native. There is a gorgeous, crystalline coastline surrounding the two islets that make up Huaine, while beautiful coves and sandy beach make the adventure even more dramatic.
Huahine, relatively unaltered from the contemporary realm, provides the slow, quieter tempo of ancient Polynesia. The few inhabitants welcome the visitor with great friendliness with only eight small towns spread all over the isle. It is not surprising that this fruitful land provides a wealthy land, offering a wealth of banana, melon and custard to our peasants.
Known as the "secret island", the "authentic island" and the "remote island", many enchanting words come to your minds when you mention Hua Hine, and for logical reason. It is a tasty coctail of landscapes and ambience of Polynesia. Hua hine is an isle of life, an isle of feeling. Maeva, northeast of Fare, is situated near the biggest of the two lakes, Fa'una Nui.
Stone trap fishing - a heritage of ancestors that is still in use today - as well as countless maraea and other archaeological remains are gathered in this genuine town. There is a small pedagogical centre at the address combs...'e (a home where the communal wisdom, holy tradition and ritual were taught) to display items and other remains from various archaeological excavations (paddles, ax blade, fishing tooth tags, pestle, tattoo crests....).
Take a trip to the untouched colourful Laguna, discover the marine life (reef faces, fish caverns and core gardens) and one of the biggest archaeological areas on the islands of Tahiti, enjoying a shipwreck trip, open ocean angling, windsurfing, hiking, horse backpacking, mountain biking, and kitesurfing. Around the isle there are numerous aquatic and terrestrials.
