How to get to Marquesas keys
So how do you get the keys to Marquesas? The area is quieter and more relaxed with fewer people coming to Marquesas Keys for fishing from Key West FL.
The Marqusas Keys Islands, A Guidebook to the Marquesas Keys
Twenty-five leagues westward of Key Western, this circle of archipelago has attracted the interest of many visitors and the desires of those who have not heeded them. Why is it about the Marquesas that attracts so much interest in other parts of the Keys?
Are the astonishingly wide, untouched grassy plains spreading all over the globe and providing world-class grandslam winds? I' ll wager for some it would be the big coastal wrecks that offer the easy fisherman an all-day advent. Marquesas have taken this particular place in my mind since I was old enough to say it properly.
Nowadays, as the ship products' technologies and dependability are constantly being improved, it is very simple to get to the Marquesas. Anyone with a sixteen plus footboat, a new map, fundamental electronics and some common sense has made it to devise a great full moon adventure or a night sojourn on their vessel out in this vast fish euphoria.
It can be a great angling experience for any angler with a little planing and some location experience. There are several ways to get to the Marquesas Keys, according to the kind of boats used. Lakes Passage begins just across the Northwest Canal from Keyest.
It is also clearly recognisable on the area' s maps, as it winds through a small string of isles that misses the Marquesas by about six kilometres and ends at Boca Grand Key. It then opens up to the Boca Grand Channel and makes the Marquesas archipelago on the west skyline viewable.
The crossing of the Boca Grand Channel can provide every vessel with a run for its price on some of the most beautiful dates, let alone when the wind is blowing. A lot of care should be taken when using a small flat vessel. For comparison: The Boca Grand Channel is the first straight connection between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico; it can be six mile poorroads.
The canal is not a place for poor judgement with a very impressing tidal stream. Keys West Harbor Flood is very near the same hours as Boca Grand Canal. When you see you see the Boca Grand Canal.
Now, let's just append a 10 to 15 cubic inch southerly windsupply, and there you have it, a two to three feet cutlet for six mile to reach the shelter of the Marquesas. You can see that a cruise to the Marquesas in a smaller vessel requires a little preparation and reason.
Much of the boater are able to search for protection during a poor gale where they do their boating; this is where I think the Marquesas is offering a wrong direction of safety. Now, where else in the state can a man take a 16-foot flatboat 30 leagues off the coast? That'?s how far a ship in the Marquesas is from a proper safe house.
As you enjoy your days out there, occasionally look up and over the isles to look for hidden skyscrapers, especially when they come from the eastern; they are between you and Key West. When it is too early to run for it, it is easily to take cover at low and high tides, but at low tides it is not.
Ensure that your vessel is adequately protected against mosquitoes before choosing this to use. The Marquesas Keys and the Marquesas Keys are a great place to enjoy your time. As everywhere else, most species here are drifting tides and are relying on the tides to feed them, while higher water allows them to stand up on the plains looking for foraging.
Marquesas are known all over the oceans for their apartments that go for permit fishery. I have seen up to ten pelagic within 100 sq. metres of my vessel. Anything a fisherman has seen in a flatfish books works here. The majority of the larger species can be found outside the Gulf and the Atlantic and the infants (fifteen to fifty pounds) are located inside and seek protection between the mangroves' margins and inland canals.
Most of these are five to eight pound heavy and very restless. The mangrove snapper, like many other types of sea life out there, is bigger than usual for even more recreational fisheries; it is very simple to quickly reach a beautiful border of legitimate fisheries by working the inland canals.
No wonder there's a large populations of shark, jack and barracuda in the apartments, willing to jump on a hook or living lure, providing a complete angler adventure for all who can. Near the coast to the southwest and southwest there are coral and small wreck with a large number of large barracudas, some permit and large easy staple bottom fisher.
Several of the maps available in the area' s staple stores here in Key West provide GPS numbers for some of the most common shipwrecks to help you get in. My firm organised several wildlife hunting for companies that came to Key West with me and other travel guide-business.
Aim of the hunting is to provide a great fishingday, regardless of the angler's ability. The Marquesas, my fishermen and I fished fourteen different types of catches, eight of which were artificially made without ever going down more than tenft.
I suggest that you load the vessel for a whole days in the Marquesas: take some throwing spin poles in the eight to twelve pounds area with a 15 to twenty pounds sized pole for a shark. Also a must-have in my kit is a twelve pounds sized triplicate fish flourocarbon Leader fabric for bones and permit, fifteen to twenty pounds for snapper and jacks, to thirty to sixty pounds for tarpon.
Tubes of lure are a favourite for the cudas in the flatracks and a good top wather plugs will certainly attract the interest of all blacktip and lemon shark. If you drum a barracuda on one of the flat shipwrecks around the island, you can be awarded with a trophy-sized barracuda.
Living baits in the Marquesas are like everywhere else. The type of apartment will appreciate the shrimps and prawns. It reacts very well to shrimps and baitfishes. Tidal waters are crucial for fisheries in the plains and coastal areas of the Marquesas. On the Atlantic side of the Marquesas, the tidal waters are approximately the same as in Key West Harbor.
In some places the golf side can be two and a half hour behind the Key West Harbor Toide. It is a coloured photo map that stretches from the eastern end of the Seepassage to the western side of the Marquesas and shows flat areas that should be avoided, all navigational aids being superimposed.
When you are taking your yacht to Key West, I suggest two safe docks, Oceanside Marina on Stock Island at the end of Maloney and City Marina on the charter line on the North Roosevelt and Palm Avenues.
If I go to a new area to go fishing for a few long fishing trips, I usually stop at one of the most favourite fishing stores near the area where I hire my bate. There I make sure to purchase the last few minute supplies kind ices, bait, live lures and some of the things the storage secretary says I need in the area I am planning to be fishing.
Conchy Joes is located near the City Marina Location on the North Roosevelt and McMillan Drive, about a half way from the charter range. Here you will find a full service Tackle and Lure Centre with welcoming people. There' s no question that the Marquesas Keys are a great place to be.
At the moment, 45 per cent of my charter is on Marquesas Keys and every single days I go there it becomes clear that this area is untouched and possibly the last limit of what it once was. In this sense, if you are planning a journey to the Marquesas, I ask you to consider this area not as a place to be conquered, but as a place to be enjoyed.
Practise the right catches and releases with our catches so that they can be here for many years. Do not use the large number of canals that go to and from the island, not the plains, to get around with your cat. If you see a shallow hull tuning a level, give it plenty of distance; chances are that shallow fisher is a working fisher leader who will help you with all the information to get out there in the first place.
