#179 Travel Blog - Snorkelling on Lanai with Pacific Whale Foundation

We went on a snorkeling excursion to Lanai today with the Pacific Chale Foundation. Pacific Chale Foundation is known for its great snorkeling and exploring whales. We had to go to the Pacific Lahaina Front Street shop to collect our ticket before we could board the ship.

We were asked to go to the harbour and await the boat after we had picked up our ticket. After entering the big boat, the first officer told us that the day's schedule would begin with going to Lanai for snorkelling (and hopefully seeing some sharks as we crossed the canal or worked our way down the coast).

The large vessel has room for very large groups and today's group was made up of over a hundred and twenty people. There was still enough room for all of us to find a convenient place on the group. From Lahaina harbour we set out and then the workmen began to serve us our breakfasts.

When we made our trip to Lanai, the skipper and staff presented themselves and gave us a brief overview of their careers and skills (some of them had quite impressing resumes). In addition, we received an information booklet explaining the purposes of the Pacific Whale Foundation and its missions.

Continuing along the coast, we discovered a huge colony of spinner-dolphin! Everybody on the catamaran set off to get a better sight and to photograph the cetaceans. Pacific Whale Foundation asked the boat's occupants to provide an estimation of the number of all delphins in the capsule to establish an approximate estimation that would be used for their research.

They jumped up and spun quickly in a drum movement in the outdoors. Really the aerobatic flight demonstrations of the feral dolphin were an astonishing view! About 20 min. look at the hahaiian spinners we made our way down the coast to our snorkel area.

When I had thoroughly explored the cove to see all the wilderness I could, I headed back to the barge for dinner. While I was waiting for the remainder of the guests to come back from snorkelling, I had my dinner and sunbathing and relaxed. After we all were done snorkelling and having dinner, we went back to the harbour of Lahaina.

Cruising was unexpectedly calm as the winds from the Passat were weak and there was not much breeze through the Auau Canal. There was a relaxed cruise back to the harbour. The Pacific Whale Foundation and we had a great time.
