Scuba dive in Rakiraki - Viti Levu
I don't think from my experiences with you that you need any improvements......highlights: tortoises, great macros and naval variety, schools of fishing & great pelagic fish......diving environment: sound cliffs, scuba dives, current dives, beginners and experienced dives, off the well-trodden paths..... Located in the most northern part of Fiji's capital Viti Levu, Rakiraki is easy to reach from Nadi, yet offers an intimate and secluded area.
Rakiraki's diving spots are designed to make novices happy while advanced diver can experience the variety of scenery and sea Life. Locations are close by and easy to reach from the countryside. It is also possible to explore the more remote and prestigious places of the Vatu-I-Ra Passage in Bligh Water, which are among the best in Fiji.
There is a variety of recreational divesites from tunnel, passageway and canyon view to lifelike rock faces, cliffs and crenellations. Most Rakiraki Divesites have the characteristic hard coral that makes Fiji known. Many bright colors and many fishes await you, a photographer's dreams in good sight.
Rakiraki dive is characterized by schools of colorful tropic marine life, among them Muslim Idole, virgins, butterflyfishes, and reddish empress. But there are also bigger, more impressing species that can be seen in the area. There are also blacktip, whitetip, bronce and gray shark reefs and toadstools.
Rakiraki has something for every kind of divers thanks to the variety of scuba divers' difficulties, topographies, depths and sea creatures. Several of the Rakiraki Divesites are called after their striking scenery, as is the case with Amazing Maze, with canals, passages and gorges to explor. Fanfish, hard to find hard to find areas, as well as hard to find hard to find areas, along many of the cliffs, offering protection for the countless smaller species of sharks that inhabit Nananu-I-Ra Island.
Vatu-I-Ra Passage is waiting for you if you want to go further than the area. The diving spots are in Bligh Water and further inland. As long as the meteorological condition does not stop them, they can also be scuba diving from the Rakiraki Diving Resort on a day-to-day however.
The area has lower, more prominent locations such as Mellow Yellow, famous for its wealth of hard coral, and Wheatfield, where towering twins tower from a 45m deep sea bed encircled by a wealth of seawater. They are places that are frequently frequented by Fiji's liveaboard divers and are among the best in the state.
From Rakiraki there are also some shipwreck diving. This is Fiji's biggest and most easily accessed shipwreck, and it works with sea lions. The Ovalau II is an exciting 55 meter long diving on a shipwreck for the advanced divers. It used to run between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, but in August 2003 it swamped its motor and sunk without forgetting people.
Some other notable dive spots are Black Magic Mountain, Mary's Maytag, Pandora's Box and Pot Luck.
