Is there a ferry between the isles?

Aloha, Dawn, let me shed some lights on your ferry issue..... From now on there is a ferry connection, but only between Maui and Lanai and between Maui and Molokai. A small ferry offers five 45-minute round trip or one-way cruises between Maui and Lanai every day (for persons only; no cars).

You can take pictures on board or just take in the view Maui County offers - the Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Kahoolawe Isles, and on a clear sunny days maybe the Big Island. There is another small ferry between Maui and Molokai every morning. It seems that the cruises are planned more for Molokai inhabitants travelling to work on Maui than for visitors, as the ferry departs Molokai at 6am and returns at 5pm.

Each of these small ferryboats requires your vessels in good condition. We had hydrofoils in the 1970s that connected Honolulu with Maui and the Big Isle. Inter-islander flight is by far the most favoured option for inter-island transits. Flights are the quickest way from one place to another (about 20 min. flight time).

Surgery began in 2007 and was discontinued in March 2009 following a recent lawsuit by the Supreme Court of Hawaii. After that SuperFerry declared insolvency and the vessels were given back to the creditors. Both Hawaii Superferry CATAMARANE, Huakai and Alakai, costs around $90 million each, but were eventually resold for $25 million each.

Much of Hawaii's SuperFerry-related debts are still in the double-digit million range. In addition, the state for SuperFerry costs nearly $40 million and was divested for about 1% of its costs. Severe coastal breeze in Hawaii in winters led to severe seasickness and many SuperFerry disruptions.

Of the 866 passengers, 282 Auto SuperFerry was petrol efficient and demanded the use of costly barge and towing prop. In the end, the Supreme Court decided that the SuperFerry exception from an EIA was inconstitutional. Predatory airline cutthroat operation and the then difficult business environment were good grounds for SuperFerry to stop.
