Map of Gulf IslandsSouth Gulf Islands | Vancouver Island and the Golf Islands
More than 300 islands are situated off the southeast coast of Vancouver Island, but only the bigger ones of Galiano Island, Mayne Island, Saturna Island, North and Salt Spring Island and North and Southeast Pender Islands help a large area. The islands are renowned for extraordinary art and craft, rural guesthouses, superb dining, parkland, hiking, canoeing, biking and stunning landscapes.
You can reach the major islands via BC Ferries from Swartz Bay on Vancouver Iceland and Tsawwassen on the lower part of the world. In summers there are several departures to each of the islands every year. Determine in Advance which of the islands is best suited to your needs and then check with BC Ferries to see if you can organise the connection during the course of the working days or if you need to find shelter.
With the exception of the summers, the daily departures to many islands are limited to one or two. The island's visitor is always impressed by its unspoilt beauty: calm streets with more stags or otters than drivers, wide, continuous coastlines with picturesque beacons, Madronna, Douglas fir and Garry Oak stalls, sandy shores and extensive marine parklands.
Farmhouses that support biological horticulture and a large stock of seeds from nature are a reflection of the island's farming past, as well as its internationally recognised vines. BC Gulf Islands have drawn a diverse and gifted group of craftsmen. When they are not on the go, they perform in front of a small pub s and cafes in front of a small public and bring along huge talents from other parts.
The Gulf Islands in the Gulf Islands National Reserve is made up of 16 islands and many small islands and reefs in the South Gulf Islands of British Columbia. It is Canada's fifth smallest nature reserve with a surface area of 33 square kilometres (including a 25 metre long inter-tidal zone). Situated 200 meters offshore from the country's border, the lakes are also guarded and administered by Parks Canada.
Several of the estates in the reserve used to be part of the BC Province System. Among these are D'Arcy Island, Isle-de-Lis, Sidney Spit, Princess Margaret, Cabbage Island, Winter Cove, Beaumont/Mt. Norman, part of the Gulf Islands Natural Reserve, Prior Centennial and McDonald Province Reserve. Do you need a place to spend the night or camping while you explore the southern golf islands?
