Camping Great Barrier Island

Campsite host on Aotea/Great Barrier Island. Nowhere is this more proven than on the Great Barrier Island (or the barrier as it is known to the locals). Fitzroy is a popular family campsite near the protected waters of Port Fitzroy, with easy access to many of the island's hiking trails. AOTEA ("Great Barrier Island") welcomes you. You should look out for stowaways that can be harmful to the island's wildlife before your visit.

Grassland-clad camping sites are located at the Awana-Mouth. 300 meters to a great windsurfing spot. There is a barrier separating camping sites from a recreation area.

It is not allowed to enter the sea. Approximately 10 minutes to the Claris shops and the café. Shallow plots on a farmyard under old tree population, near shrubs and beaches and at the highroad. Approximately 10 minutes to the Claris shops and the café. Showering, the summers. Located between two creeks, with views of Overton's Strand and Rakitu Island with protection under old saplings.

300 metres from the sea, amidst fields and bushes. Approximately 30 minutes to the Claris Shops & Café. in this area. At the beginning of the Hirakimata (Mt Hobson) stretch in Kaiaraara Bay, Port FitzRoy. Around 30/40 minutes on foot in summers for shopping, information centres etc. On the south end of Medlands Strand, with some shadow.

The campsite is set amidst fields, sand and cottages, overlooking a river tide that invites you to swim safely and the lovely sandy beaches are a favourite for windsurfing. Approx. 10 minutes by car or 30/40 minutes on foot to the Claris shop and café. Tryphena, a short stroll to the quay. Approximately 30/40 minutes on foot to the Tryphena shop and café. in this area.

Near the road system and the MTB route to Port FitzRoy in the south. Approx. 1 hour on foot to Claris stores & café. in high season. View to Mt. Hirakimata and the island Rakitu. Look out for uncommon bird species that nest on this sandy area. Approximately one hour on foot to the Port FitzRoy general shop.

On the Great Barrier Island there is a'Total Fire Ban' in sommer. Camping site fees: The fee must be paid at the moment of reservation. Adult $13 per person per day, 5-17 years $6.50pn 0-4 years free, cabin fees: The fee must be paid at the moment of reservation.
