It is largely unspoiled and sheltered as a Fitzroy Island National Park, with trails through rainforests, heath and open forests to Nudey Beach and the Summit. Farmer said Nudey Beach is "probably the most beautiful island we have where a luxuriant, pristine tropical jungle encounters a colorful cliff - and it is the Great Barrier Reef".
In the last 6,000 years a seam Corallenriff has developed around the island, which accommodates innumerable kinds of rigid Korallen, Weichkorallen and tropische Fisforsch. They are now sheltered as part of the Great Barrier reef Marine Park, which extends for 2300 km along the Queensland coast.
