By ferry or flight to Lanai'i? I' m trying to figure out whether to go to Lanai'i or take the ferry. Myself, my first election takes me to Lanaii at 12 o'clock at midday, which gives me free lunch but it' also the most costly one for $270/person. It' $180/person, but it'll take me to Lanaii later in the afternoons.

so I' d have to await the 3:15 dep. Well, I think that would be a wasted most of the time. Seems a plane from Lanaii to Honolulu might be more dependable. I' d like to know from anyone who has done the ferry taxis over Maui or the flights over Honolulu.

expedition's LAHAINA CASSENGER ferry IS AN EFFICIENT SERVICE & LANAI INLAND IS GREAT, BUT....... At the request of a mate I got a flight back from West Maui's LAHAINA HARBOUR on the LANIA FERRY and stayed one night on the isle of LANAI. This was the best of my 3-week MAUI-stay.

There are 5 ferry rides a day, each of which takes about 50 mins. I had expected a renovated ferry in the 30's but in fact it was quite fashionable in the look of an extra large luxurious cruiser: many chairs, calm and well ridden (in summers the sea between the MAUI and LANAI is mostly benign).

Expenditure was $60 returns - good value in my effort to Add another insular tour to my overall amount (um, I think I'm up to #382). The personnel were kind and effective, with the sole exemption of the harsh manifesto of passengers. One older dude (who looks like Hardy Case's brother) was always joking about it.

Upon arriving at the small port of MANELE in the southern part of LANAI, a shuttleship bus was awaiting the passengers to LANAI CITY, the mainland ('10 each way'), an 8 mile-13 km/20 minutes drive to the main calendera. Although HAWAII'S sixth biggest isle, LANAI is small at 18X10 for the broadest axles ( 24kmx16).

Maximum altitude is 3600ft v 10000ft+ on MAUI. The LANAI CITY "CITY" is a false name - more a restored/preserved city of plantations and a charming place to stay 90 minutes, HUALOPOE BEACH near the jetty (fast shuttles from the city): charming - would deserve a place in the upper half-ten MAUI shores, and MAUI is not just on good shores, After a bath, snorkeling and some sunny I've moved into the vicinity:
