House of Commerce goes to Samoa, USA
Hoks was honoured to participate in a rainy outdoor workout and to construct from August 21-28 at Faga?alu in Samoa, USA. We have been won over by HOK for our experience in building rainy greens, conducting rain-garden trainings, co-ordinating the dynamic of the local communities and our work in the tropics. Before construction, HOK was asked to report to local leaders, chieftains and civil servants on the water divide and the advantages of rainy soils.
Many of these people came back after this meet on Tuesday for a 3-hour practice session on the subject of irrigation horticulture. During the building ceremony we were given beautiful people, a Samoan tradition of blessings, given flowers and a clear sky. More than 30 people leveled a rainy field, built properly to get rainwater into and out of an abundant rainy field, built berms and planted them.
We ended our weekend with an invitation from three local community leaders to inspect their water catchment areas and explore ways to create more rainy creeks. This is a great Mahalogo to Rich Claytor and Anne Kitchell from the Horsely Witten Group in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Susie Holst from NOAA and Meagan Curtis from the Coral Reef Advisory Group, and all our new buddies in America Samoa-HOK are hoping to come back soon!
