Facts about Easter Island
Let us look back on some facts about Easter Island that would give you some backgrounds if you are willing to discover one of the most amazing and unforgettable places on the planet. Presumably, the man was present in the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia) around 700-1100 AD, which was later found by the discoverer Jacob Roggeveen on Easter Day 1722, who called it Paasch-Eyland:
Isle of Easter. Apparently the early colonists used to call themselves the Rapa Nui, which means "hospitable" or "peace-loving people". This island was known as Te Pito o Te Henua by Hotu Matua. It' s about halfway between Tahiti and Chile - 3,600 km western of Chile to be exact.
In 1888 it was incorporated by the Chilean government and placed under the jurisdiction of ValparaÃso. The island of Te Pito o Te Henua or Rapid Nui saw days of splendour when the island had a sane population of 10,000 and the moon reached its apex.
Subsequent years turned out to be disastrous for the Rapa Nui people. Indeed, the island crumbled in the 1860' s, which may have been helped by indigenous warfare, but others were also there. Wallcatchers came first, invaded the South Pacific from Australia to Chile and were always looking for inexpensive labour (euphemism for slaves).
The Easter Island is thought to have at some point reach a crucial 100 people. First, the catchers introduced TB and syphilitis. Later on, servants who survived and returned to Rape Nui caused pox and epidemic devastation that spread to the Marquesas isles. It has been exactly the pox in the story of South America, the most disastrous cause of devastation by Europeans conquering the New World - from Mexico to the South.
The Easter Island Card: Hispanic ( "official"), Hispanic ("Pascuense"). Chilenean Peso (CLP). The Easter Island was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. Around 1900 Easter Island was a shepherd' s ranch, which was leased to the Williamson-Balfour Company until 1953. Then it was administered by the Chilenean Navy until 1966. Its needs were met by a continental vessel every month.
