A number of businesses run cable cars on Kauai. The Kauai Backcountry Adventures operates seven routes on 17,000 acre of former Lihue Sugarcane plantations just outside the centre of Lihue. The minimum age for all our visitors is 12 years. If you are a family with younger kids, try our Kauai clothes. Its zipper line is at Kipu Ranch - a private property often used as a backdrop for Hollywood films - and stretches almost 2,000 ft before it plunges you into a remote jungleshole.
Guest must be at least 7 years old. See tens of thousand gallon of waters flowing down a picturesque cliff at Kipu Falls, just a few short steps from Kalapaki Beach and Lihue International Airport. Waterfalls, its ropes sway into the fresh waters and the grass benches around attracts swimming and picnic families.
Coming to Kipu Falls, take Hwy 50 (Kaumualii Highway) from the city centre to Poipu to the South-West. Turn to your right at Kipu Rd - when you see the Kauai Humane Society on your right, you have gone too far - and continue to Kipu Rd Jump. Turn lefthand onto the unpaved country lane just before the crossroad.
You can park somewhere along the roadside and take the footpath past the door. You' ll see the cascade within 10 min. on foot. Kauai Museum in downtown Lihue is open every single sunday. The two-storey building sheds light on the city' s past, visitors from recent times through the island' s granite forest and even further back in time, when the area was still dominated by a group of hawaiian monarch.
Practical items inspire people of all age groups, and there are regular familydays with child-friendly events. People aged 65 and over are $8; kids aged 13-17 are $6; kids aged 6-12 are $2; and youngsters under 5 are free. Bushwalk 4428 Rice St. Poipu, on the southern bank of Kauai, is one of the best snorkelling spots on the coast, according to Ultimate Kauai Guidebook.
Hire or buy snorkelling equipment in the many windsurfing stores on the islands and then immerse yourself in the water of Poipu Beaches to see huge views of colourful corals and tropical wrasse. For the best snorkelling, thanks to the large cliffs, you can find on the right side of the sandbank that divides the sunbath.
The younger kids will be able to admire the lefthand side of the sea; it is sheltered by a sea wall and is about 1 to 3 ft underwater. From Lihue city centre to Poipu Strand, take Highway 50 towards Koloa or Poipu. Turn into Maluhia Road, where Kauai's renowned tree channel is located, and then turn right into Koloa Road.
After about two-minute turn right onto Poipu Road, then right onto Hoowili Road.
