Wellington nz Day Trips

It is Martinborough who will change the way you think about the Pinot in New Zealand. 1 - 2 day trips from Wellington - Wellington Forum Hello Dakota - the former Wairarapa in Wairarapa was proposed by Martinborough. Wairarapa is a favourite destination for Wellingtoners. Graytown (north of Martinborough is a sweet province city with some nice cafés. Further it goes towards the northern part to Castlepoint, a steep but beloved sandy area or down to the very prominent southern Wairarapa coastline.

A day excursion is available to Greytown, Martinborough and Cape Pallister. The castlepoint is further away and you may want to spend a day at Wairarapa to see it. A further proposal for an overnight is Picton, the South Island harbour. From Wellington to Picton there are several ferryboats a day that drive through the wonderful Marlborough Sounds.

To rent a vehicle, you can go to the Marlborough vineyard (famous for its sowvignon blanc) or Nelson Lake (pretty glacier lakes), or, if you've had an additional day or two, drive further to Kaikoura (whale watching) or to Nelson to the north. Nelson and Blenheim (the largest city in the Marlborough area) also have frequent services to Wellington.

You can also see the Kapiti Coastline, just off Wellington. Its coastline is ruled by Kapiti Iceland, a protected area populated by scarce and threatened indigenous avifauna. It would take a whole day to get to Kapiti Iceland - if you go to the top of the islands (recommended), you will probably be too exhausted to discover the area.

From Lindale (north of Paraparaumu) on a Kapiti glacier (best glacier of all time ), further to Waikanae to the northern side and then possibly on the most gruesome street in the area ( (sometimes very tight and windily, and not advisable for motorists) via the Akataweras into Hutt Valley.

Makes me think of the west shore. For Wellington, there is Te Papa, a funicular to the botanic garden and a walk into town, going to Lambton Quay, having a good cup of good coffe, strolling along the water, going to the southern part.
