It' s like the most isolated of the Aegean islands, but it is near Athens.
From Lavrion the boat departs, since the boats to Pireaus do not depart from Pireaus, it is missed, although it is one of the Cyclades Islands and the next one to Athens. It is a very interesting and nice place with a long story and is very beloved by the Athenians, many who have cottages here or come on outings.
Ioulis is a fabulous labarinth of whitewashed cycladian homes on the side of a hill with a small central quad. As it is a favourite of the Greeks, there are many good places to eat, among them the renowned Rolando's in Ioulida, known for its crispish. There are few links to the Cyclades, but several ferries a day to Kythnos and Syros, where you can make other one.
From Lavrion there are other routes to various islands. A two-and-a-half hour trip by boat to Lavrion and a cab takes you to Pireaus and you can go almost anywhere. Kythnos, the first western Cyclades islands to include Serifos, Sifnos and Milos, is an untouristic destination with warm water sources, some beautiful sandy shores and a popular stopover for sailing boats and boats going to the Cyclades.
There is also an outstanding diving base, one of the best in Greece, in the city of Loutra, which is known for its warm water sources that lead directly into the seas. It is a wonderful archipelago with magnificent sandy areas such as Paliochori, Hivadolimni and the small bay of Sarakiniko, one of the most interesting places to go ashore. Pollonia has great bathing, dining and boating to Kimilos Isle. Plaka, the capital, consists of the Cyclades' famous cubical whitestones.
Its archaeological heritage includes a number of archaeological monuments, among them Catholic bombs, a Rome amphitheater, Venice forts and musees. Everyday sailboats from and to Pireaus link the islands with Sifnos, Serifos and Kythnos. It' about a 7-hour drive to Pireaus. Nicolaos on Crete and one or two per weeks to Folegandros, Sikinos, Ios and Santorini.
Maximum daily speeds in summers are about 3h. Sifnos is the ideal choice in conjunction with Sifnos. Myconos Expensive, cheerful and funny for gay men, heterosexuals and family, an isle designed to look good in Facebook photo and postcard. Intensive night life with night life bars that never stop and some of the best dining and hotel in Greece, this is a real jet-setter isle, although not from the field of affordable ordinary travellers.
If you want a little bit of cultural life, there are excursions to the archipelago of the archipelago of Delos and the vast remains, which are among the best in Greece. Have a look at my Mykonos guide with a great deal of further information and pictures. Another missed jewel in the Aegean, Naxos is large, lush and has perhaps the best beach in Greece. It is located near the famous islands of Mykonos, Ios, Paros and Santorini with regular ferries in this area.
Hire a vehicle and see the whole isle. Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla and Kastraki, each of which would be the coveted beaches on a different isle. Apollo is a favourite place for daily excursions, with good fish eateries and a huge incomplete sculpture of the god Apollo, which has been lying in the old quarry since 600 BC.
From Athens the journey takes about 7 hrs and lasts in Paros and in summers there can be five or more a days, in winters less. High speed rides in summers take about three inches. You can get to Mykonos, Ios and Santorini anytime. Less frequently there are also links to Crete, the Dodecanese, Ikaria, Samos, Amorgos, the small Cyclades, Skiathos, Crete and Thessaloniki.
Of the Grand Central Station of Amégean Iron System, many stop here and Paros (along with Naxos) is a good place to stay on your route, as you can easily reach Mykonos, Ios and Santorini, at least in summers. Naousa, a small idyllic fishermen's town, is so overcrowded in August that you have to queue up to pass the cafés that surrounds the harbour, in June or early July, or even better in September or May, when Paros is best.
Although the shores of the city of Peros are very beautiful, they are very well-loved. Well-known for his wind surfing. Sardinia is a very favourite place and the visitors are very lucky. From Athens it takes about 6 hrs to Naxos and Santorini. You can take several flights a day to Mykonos, Ios and Santorini in this area.
You can also find hydrofoils, catamarans, seaplanes and other weird and fast vessels that stop at almost every nearby isle. There' s also the giant cave of Antiparos, which is the most beloved place on the isle. The 2004 summers attracted many famous people to Antiparos, among them Brad Pitt and Tom Hanks, so who knows what the little isle has in store for the people.
A lot of those who used to have and went business in Paros when it became prohibitively expensive have gone to Antiparos, so that the atmosphere on the islands is more counter-cultural and there are some interesting stores, cafés and outings. It is a tourist destination, Oia is a little more peaceful, but the isle is the most loved in Greece and for good reasons.
Ancient Thira's remains are definitely a worthwhile journey if you are unaffected by the most stunning sundowns on the world. The majority of folks want to spend the night in the nice hotel with a view of the calderas, but if you have kids, you will find it a few metres further inside than on the side of a 1000-foot bluff, and also saving your dorm.

Remember that because of the appeal of Santorini, the properties with calendar views, which have been praised endlessly on pages like Crépadvisor, can demand astronomic prices. Less known properties, which may just as well be, can be half as expensive.
Volcano Villas on the cliffs of Santorini, with a large Swimmingpool and such a breathtaking panorama that you can never get out of the area, is one and I stay here. The Santorini is the holiday destination and also the place where everyone wants to get divorced, as it is one of the most charming and picturesque places in the whole wide underworld.

Serifo's Less prosperous neighbour of Sifnos. As Sifnos, Milos and Kythnos, for older travellers, although they have an outstanding campsite in Livadakia near the docks. After all, I was there in the 2006 sommer and I used to love it and have been back ever since. Magnificent setting and very welcoming owners named Babis Bobolis, whose love is Serifos and can show you the way to some of the best Cyclades' best sands.
Your principal town on a hill with a view of the cove is one of the most dramatic Cycladic towns with some lovely little ouzerias serving typical Cezedes. Sifnos is about 4 hrs by boat from Athens and there are regular flights to Sifnos, Milos and Kythnos. It is a very little tourist destination, it is an isle of mostly fishers and peasants.
The Syros The most singular in the Cyclades, since it is the Cyclade. There are two or three of Greece's best places to eat here. I' m sure that one of these days the city of Hermopoulis will be a favourite low seasons city. The city was the most important harbour for Greece in the later 1800s and is full of old houses, cathedrals and villas that have now been renovated.
From Pireaus there are ferryboats every morning and the journey takes about 4 or 2 hrs at high speed. Tinos and Mykonos are connected every morning and there is a boat from here to all Cyclades Islands with a different itinerary every da. The Tinos is a nice little village near Mykonos with great beach, traditionally built towns, nice scenery and a long story.
Probably the most spiritually evocative of all, the miraculous symbol in the Panagia Evangalestria temple draws miraculous visitors from all over Greece, and around August 15, the islet is full of travellers, like every ship that goes to Mykonos that stop here.
There are so many of them in the hotel, they' re sleeping on the street. However, apart from the two week around this date, Tinos is generally a calm place and is not only definitely a place to be. You could be here for your whole vacation and be quite satisfie. And if you're looking for some fun, Mykonos is 15 min by fast shuttle.
From Pireaus there are ferry boats every day, about 4 hrs away, and also Rafina. Every day flights to Andros, Syros and Mykonos. In fact, there are about a couple of dozens of infant cyclades, but only four are used nowadays: the Cyclades: the Baby Cyclades: the Cyclades: the Baby Cyclades: the Cyclades: the Baby Cyclades: the Babies: It is unlikely that the Athens based agents can help to book accommodation, except in Páno Koufoníssi and Skhnioússa, which have some luxurious accommodation facilities.
Accomodation can be on the cheaper side, but eating out is definitely not - small islands do not mean small prizes. Most of these islands can be added to an island hoping route in summers.
