Hawaii's Retail Association director says that the grained bead is spam used as currency and trafficked against narcotics. The theft of spam has been escalating since a recent amendment to the value of goods that have been robbed to define a felony, Tina Yamaki said. It said that organized offenders seemed to be concerned, with all the cases of spam in some of the robberies.
Mrs Yamaki said the tins were often out of stock, at file-sharing networks and some use spam as currency to exchange narcotics. So, before they go straight under the $US300 level, they go straight under the $750, which is twice as much as before."
According to Tina Yamaki, the robbers seemed to know exactly how much spam they could take without being pursued for a crime if they got busted.
Exchangerate policies in the Pacific: an assessment of the currency baskets - Xoshino - 2017 - Asian-Pacific Economic Literature
Pacific Islanders have adopted currency systems with different levels of flexibilty. While several micro-states have introduced an outside currency as statutory currency, others have elected to use a basked currency and others have gone for a manageable floating. Choosing the currency parity system can have far-reaching economical implications.
We examine the Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Tonga baskets of currency. First, we create a new four-country currency conversion scheme that shows how currency administrations should best define the weightings of baskets for certain macro-economic objectives. As part of this approach, we specifically incorporate tourist streams.
The second part of the document estimates the actual weightings of the four countries' currency baskets. Lastly, we show that the actual weighting is not optimum in comparison to the forecasts of our models.
