The Baltimore is located in the centre of Maryland, on the bank of the Patapsco Riviera, which flows into Chesapeakeay. During the early 1700s, the area was a centre of growing tobaccos, and a harbour was built on the cove to make it easier to bring tobaccos to Europe. The Baltimore began as a small city next to the harbour that met the needs of thriving commerce.

The city grew as other Caribbean produce such as Caribbean rums and grains were imported from neighbouring farmhouses through the dock. Baltimore was the US capitol for a brief period during the Revolutionary Wars when the US Congressional decided to move away from Philadelphia for a while. In Baltimore, the shipbuilding industry was boosted by the outbreak of the Great Depression, and the Fell's Point yards constructed both merchant and private warships.

Fort McHenry was at the centre of the city's courageous defence in 1812 before the British invasion of the renowned Battle of Baltimore. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad were built in the mid-19th centuries to allow maize to be transported from the West to the dock, providing a major upturn in the town.

In 1904, a major fire devastated many of the town centre and caused a catastrophe in the twentieth and twentieth centuries.
