CHUUUK STATE - Legal Information System of the Federated States of Micronesia
Chuuk State is one of the four states that make up the Federated States of Micronesia, together with the states of Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap. The most populous state with around 53,000 inhabitants, more than 40,000 of whom live on the major isles of the major Laguna.
At Chuuk, about 1,000 kilometres south-east of Guam. The Chuuk is made up of 11 high mangrove-lined islets in the Chuuk Bay and a number of 14 outer tolls and low islets that surround the area. Weno, Tonoas, Uman and Fefan are the major lagoons. The Chuuk Laguna is one of the best and best-known dive spots in the worid, as during the Second Worid War tens of war ships and airplanes were wrecks.
The State of Chuuk has its own institutional regime with three arms of governance on an equitable basis, comprising the judiciary, the legislature and the state. Senate is composed of 10 members, the President of the Senate being the highest official. There are 28 members in the House of Representatives and the spokesman is the highest ranking mate.
