The shipyards were shut down in 1984, but then opened to the general population for the first reason, and flew to a stream of vectorian hulls, World War II wreckers, 60s U-boats and important parts of the historical Cutty Sark, which were brought to Chatham for renovation before a fire devoured the ship at Greenwich in 2007.
