In the Canary Islands, the temperature is almost year-round, whether it' s summers or winters, you can savour the drama and variety that you normally have to endure across the continent. Admire the sub-tropical green of La Gomera Nature Reserve, the pinewoods in the heart of Gran Canaria or the falling falls of La Palma.

You will then be able to see the contrasts with the extraordinarily sparse plain that flankes Tenerife's El Teide, the colourful surrealism of Lanzarote's lavafields and the infinite plain of Fuerteventura, interrupted by cactus, bushes and many (and many) geese. This variety of landscapes, combined with the foreseeable sunshine, makes open-air pursuits so open and diverse.

Walk the marked paths that traverse the islands, from winding paths to mountain tours, immerse yourself in temptingly hot water, marvel at more than 350 different kinds of fishing (and some of the shipwrecks) or fill up your adrenaline by horse back ride in the winds and surf - kite sailing, windbreaking and surfin' are all great here.

Decelerate your speed with horseback riding, rounding, horseback riding and boating. This is the place to be if your vision of a great vacation is the tempting combination of R&R. There are many possibilities, from the gently sweeping Fuerteventura dune to the vast arches of gold sands.

There is also a flood of seafront pubs where you can have cocktails at sundown while watching the softly flooded seas. The Canary Islands cannot offer the great Spanish major city museum, but there is a lot to inspire lovers of the arts and cultur. Surrealistic enthusiasts should see the stunning screens of the famous artist Óscar Domínguez in his hometown Santa Cruz de Tenerife, while the enormous abstracts of the natives Martín Chirino and César Manrique on Gran Canaria and Lanzarote cannot be missed.

When you are looking for a building, look for the symbolic wood balcony, green courtyards and colourful façades that are typical of Canary Islands architectural style.
