I' m interested in working at Bora Bora Bora in a resort..... A few good information about this recurrent issue of working in Polynesia was post in another forums, so I thought I would post it here. To have a good careers or a good day in Polynesia would indeed be a great thing.

Unfortunately, the poor message is that it is NOT possible for the ordinary foreign ("non-French") to do so. Because of EU immigration legislation, Europeans have slightly better chances of getting a work visa than Americans, but not much. To work in Polynesia, non-French people need a "carte sejour" or "permis de travail", also known as a work visa.

First and most important criterion is that the candidate must have QUALIFICATIONS OF EFFORTS NOT found in the RP, i.e. for which no Tahitians are qualified. Even if this is not possible, the candidate must first find a job, because it is the WORKER who must submit his application for the approval!

It can take up to 2 month, after which the employee must post the vacancy for a specific length of timeframe to demonstrate that no Tahitian has submitted an application or qualifier for the vacancy. This is the only way to renew an authorisation. In 911, the tragedy made this sluggish tourist climate even more serious, and many hotels have even laid off their own faithful indigenous labour.

Workers are the one who must obtain the work permits, not the workers, and the position must be advertised for 4 local periods, with Tahitians preferred to be hired before being advertised to a national. Applicants must have a residency card before they can apply for a work visa.
